Since the beginning of time, the Empire of Joseon has been blessed with extraordinary magic. It streams down their waterfalls, crawls up the ancient high towers, and lives in their soil, making the land the most prosperous in the nation.

For centuries, respectful Monarchs have reigned over the Empire. Righteousness praiseworthy, their names will be remembered till the end of time. Among them was one honourable man, worthy of being remembered as the last Emperor to rule Joseon.

They say his reign was one of the greatest in history, as evidenced by the Empire's growing power and its deeper understanding of magic. Benevolent, with a dot of brooding temper, he carried his Empire through numerous succession.

Ruling beside him was his Empress, a foreign princess known for her unique beauty and cleverness. Her influence stretched far and wide into the world. A resilient, stubborn woman with many secrets, unbothered by the pressure of society. A woman with boundless power.

Apparently, they have met in a place quite unlike for a lady and her free spirit has caught the attention of the young broody Emperor. Their eyes had met and the rest had been history.

A year into their marriage, the Empress gave birth to a daughter. Their golden child. Named after the largest dragon that has ever taken flight.

If someone were to ask Y/n, she would say she has never met a grumpier dragon. Beyond the wards, to the outside world, it would be a shocking discovery but to Y/n, who has grown up amongst these majestic creatures, nothing could compare. There wasn't a time in her consciousness when she hadn't seen dragons soaring through the sky in all their glory.

Thousands of years ago, before the civilisation, the land of Joseon was theirs to rule alone. The dragons are intelligent creatures and prefer to be left alone. Every human who tried to conquer the lands didn't live long enough to tell the tale.

The first one to do so was a woman, who had stumbled upon the island searching for refuge from a group of pirates who had been after her unborn child.

There had been countless rumours about the existence of unusual flying beasts in the land, so no one was brave enough to cross it. The young woman knew of the rumour, but had nowhere else to go. So she endured, as each day went by while she tried to survive the dense woods.

Confused by the story, Y/n vividly remembers asking her father how nothing had tried to harm her, to which he told her that, without the woman knowing, the dragons had watched her for days and had taken an unexpected interest in her. They found her amusing. Frail little thing, bravely carrying life in her belly when she could barely handle the slightest sound without flinching.

But her resilience was admirable. Some things about her were unusual, something extraordinary. They could feel it.

So, they decided to keep her. In no time, she was living amongst them. She was the first human to ride a dragon and to this day, only women are honoured to ride with dragons. It was also her womb that unfolded centuries of noble ruling. What started as small tribes grew into a kingdom, and as civilisation advanced, the Empire of Joseon came to be.
