⚠️ warning ⚠️
dead dove, do not eat.
———————————

Yuna enters the royal chamber with a tray full of tea and biscuits. The morning light shines inside the large chamber from the balcony, greeting the start of another day. As she walks farther into the room, she can see, through the open balcony, the heavy masses of bodies flying in the sky.

She doesn't think she will ever get used to the sight of dragons soaring in the sky of Joseon.

She comes to a stop in front of the woman who is neck-deep in paper documents. Judging from the scene before her, Yuna can tell the Empress did not sleep last night.

Y/n does that a lot. There are times when she doesn't sleep for weeks at a time. The same goes for food; she barely eats anything. If it were not for Yuna coaxing her to eat in the name of her concerned fiancé, the woman probably would not eat at all.

Yuna is aware that these are the habits adapted due to the chaos that happened in this palace twenty years ago. She sees the same effects in many of the other members of this palace. They haven't recovered even after two whole decades have passed.

"I brought you tea, my Lady," Yuna says as she puts down the tray on the work desk covered with piles of paperwork.

Y/n is nose-deep into work, reading through the papers that most likely have the fate of a kingdom tied to them. Her Highness halfheartedly looks through the words before signing at the bottom, sealing whoever's fate with what she decides.

It might seem like she is ready to get it done with, but Yuna knows how attentive her lady is at her work. The short time it takes her to make important decisions is truly astonishing to Yuna.

"Not now," Y/n mumbles, her eyes stuck on a paper.

Yuna can't help but shrink at the familiar response she always receives from the woman. It is always the same answer. Usually, Yuna listens and leaves the meal beside the Empress, but when she returns later, she always finds the food cold and untouched.

Today, however, she has sworn not to back out. Fiddling with her hands, Yuna plays a game she gets to play only at dire times. "But, my lady, what if your majesty finds out that you're not eating well? That would make him quite worried."

Y/n stills in her place at the words before finally lifting her head off of the papers. She raises an eyebrow at the young girl. "I see you have learned a few tricks from Akira."

Yuna smiles cheekily as she starts to pour a cup of tea.

"Stay away from him." Y/n deadpans as she takes the cup of steaming tea from the young maid.

Yuna hums sweetly. She does spend a lot of time with Akira, but he is not who she learned such a useful tactic from. She actually learned from the best. The one and only woman seated in front of her. Yuna has watched this woman twist someone's thoughts into a haywire for five years now. She wished it were not as fascinating to watch her manipulate people on a daily basis.

She opens her mouth to say something when Y/n suddenly sits up, alert in her place. Before Yuna can ask about it, a gentle tap sounds from the balcony.

Y/n instantly stands from her seat and quickly walks over towards the balcony while Yuna stands still, at this point knowing very well what is waiting for her there.

Yuna tilts her head and does not think she will ever not be in awe at the sight of the enormous white bird that is gently perched up on the railing of the balcony. Y/n runs her fingers through the soft feathers of the majestic beast before she unravels the piece of paper tied to its claw.
