Luca kept a hand on my shoulder as we moved through the crowd, steering me around groups of people. His grip not painful but firm and protective. I didn't say it, but I was grateful for the sense of security.
Men in fancy suits sat in private velvet-lined booths overlooking the main floor. Some looked old enough to be CEOs. Others looked like old politicians.
I'd never been in a club before. The music was so loud I could feel the bass vibrating through my chest, colorful lights flashed across the room, and the air smelled like expensive perfume mixed with alcohol.
Everywhere I looked, people were laughing, dancing, or talking over the music like this was just another night.
Luca's eyes scan our surroundings before he turns to me. "Listen, you don't leave my side, ok?"
I vaguely nod, too distracted reeling in the area.
My eyes dart around the room. Music thundered from the speakers, loud enough to where I could barely hear anything Luca was saying to me.
"Why would Damon be here?" I mumble, mostly to myself.
Luca doesn't look at me, continuing to lead us through the club. "He's not."
I frowned but didn't say anything else.
My hand reached down to my pocket for my phone. Or where I thought my phone was.
My fingers brushed against nothing. I stopped walking for half a second, patting my other pocket before the realization hit me.
I sigh, tipping my head back. "Shit."
Luca looked over immediately, concerned. "What?"
"I left my phone in the car."
He let out a quiet sigh, like this was the least surprising thing he'd heard all night. "It'll be fine, we'll be quick anyway."
Before I could complain, he wrapped his arm around my shoulder and guided me away from the crowded dance floor.
The further we walked, the quieter the music became. Not by much, but enough that I could finally hear my own thoughts.
We passed the bar, slipped down a dimly lit hallway, and reached a completely differentsection of the club.
A beefy security guard stood outside a large wooden door, an earpiece tucked behind one ear. His eyes swept over us before settling on Luca.
Luca leaned in just enough to murmur something I couldn't make out.
The guard didn't ask any questions. He simply gave a single nod, reached for a ring of keys clipped to his belt, and unlocked the door.
A loud metallic click echoed through the hallway.
My mouth slowly parts, eyes wide. "Woah," I mumble.
