I changed into sweatpants and a hoodie, throwing my hair up into a messy bun. I shove my phone into the front pocket of my sweatpants, checking the screen one last time.

A small smile tugs at my lips when I see the name she saved herself as.
I hurry down the stairs, careful not to make a sound. Luckily, the first floor is mostly empty, just Nina dusting the cupboards in the living room. She's one of the weekend maids. She was sweet and I enjoyed talking to her from time to time.
From down the hall, I can faintly make out Rafael and Marco's voices coming from his office. But if I stayed quiet, I could get past without being noticed.
I crack open the back door slowly, silently.
The door clicks shut behind me, and I pause for a second, listening. No footsteps. No voices. No Rafael, thankfully.
I step into the grass, the cold biting at my ankles through the fabric. My breath clouds in the air as I move along the edge of the backyard, staying low behind the hedges. When I make it to the side gate, I pull it open just enough to slip through.
I practically jump for joy when I see Sofia's black tinted Audi waiting at the curb, engine off, and her outline barely visible through the windshield. I hurry over, tug the passenger door open, and slip inside, my breath puffing into the warm air.
"Hey," she says, her voice soft. She's already got her nails tapped against the wheel, ready to go.
"Hey," I reply, slamming the door shut before glancing back at the house one last time.
Sofia puts the car into drive and pulls away from the curb. I lean back against the warmed seat and let out a slow sigh, my body finally starting to unclench.
"You okay?" she asks, glancing at me. "Your call kinda freaked me out."
I sigh, leaning my head back. "I'm okay."
"I just... Luca and I argued. And I just needed out of that house." I murmured that last part.
"I get it," she says, her voice soft, not pushing. "Do you want to talk about it?" She asks.
I shake my head. "Talking about it will just remind me and then I'll get pissed off all over again."
She nods, "Okay."
"Anyway, what were you up to before I called?" I ask.
She hesitates. Just for a second. "Oh—uh, nothing much," she says quickly, eyes fixed on the road. "Just... hanging out in my room."
I nod. "Sorry for dragging you out so late," I say, tugging at the strings of my hoodie.
