He narrows his eyes, despite the small smirk tugging. "I can't believe you attacked Damon."

Sofia's head whips toward me so fast and it's now that I remember that I forgot to tell her about that. "You what?"

Heat rushed to my cheeks. I shook my head, like the idea was absurd. "You're being dramatic. I didn't attack him."

Ace just shakes his head, pushing off the wall. He steps closer and kisses the top of my head.

"Try to get along with him," he says, then annoyingly ruffles up my hair.

"Okay whatever," I mumble, swatting his hand away.

He gives me one last look, half amused, half knowing and heads towards Marco, setting up the table outside.

The second he disappears, the air feels lighter.

Sofia exhales dramatically. "That was close, huh?"

I press my fingers to my temples. "You have no idea," I groan.

Breakfast sits at the table, various gourmet foods stretched excessively over the wood. Me, all of my brothers along with Sofia and Nic.

The setting couldn't be more peaceful and it makes me wonder why I don't come out here more often. The sun is shining over the outdoor seating area, the bird are chirping softly, and a soft breeze is compensating for the slight humidity.

To anyone it would seem like the perfect day.

I rest my elbow on the table, pressing my fingers into my temple for a second.

My mood has... dampened for some reason. I don't want it to. The last thing I want is for people to think I'm ungrateful or grumpy.

Seeing all these people has just made me realize my day would be better if a certain person was here to celebrate it with me.

But she's not.

And If someone told me just a couple months ago that this is how I would be celebrating my birthday, I'd tell them that they're bored and it shows.

Sofia nudges my arm lightly. "Do you wanna go into town later?" she asks. "I want to show you this one really cute place, it has these fairy lights and really cute little boutiques."

"Yeah, sure," I nod, smiling enough to reassure her.

Sofia grins, "It's actually so cute, you'll love it," she says, already planning it in her head.

Sofia keeps talking, something about a shop with rings or candles or whatever, her words starting to blur together.

"Sof come here real quick," Luca calls out from across the table with an easy grin on his face.
