I was on his back and we quietly snuck through the empty hallways. Travis explained to me that his father was monitoring him pretty much at all times but he managed to get a riddle sent to my dad.
"Why didn't you write an address?"
He scoffed, "And let my dad catch me writing the address of where he's keeping one of the worlds richest mens daughters? No thankyou." I giggled at the sarcasm in his voice.
"Travis?"
"Yeah?"
"Why'd you do it? Agree to help him I mean."
"He's my dad what else was I supposed to do?"
"Come to my dad. Tell him what he was planning..."
Travis stopped, "You don't understand do you?"
"What do you mean?"
"You don't understand what it's like do you? To have a dad who literally hates you. You just want him to love you and you know he never will but you'll still do whatever you can to try." I looked down and didn't say anything for a few minutes. I didn't. I had no idea what it felt like to be rejected like that. Well...I guess I did...
"My mom."
"What?"
"My mom she sent me here because they weren't receiving money from Social Security for me anymore. She uhm cheated on the man I called dad for 16 years of my life with Tony but didn't tell anyone until I got here and dad called her and she said that she didn't want me anymore."
"You know what?"
"What?"
"That sounds alot worse."
"How about we call it even and go from there?" I asked.
"Deal Missy."
"Are we almost out of here?"
"Yeah it's about 2 in the morning right now no ones gonna be up and we're gonna get out of here as soon as possible."
Suddenly the ground shook and I fell off of Travis' back and he fell to the ground. I crawled over to his unconscious body. He must have hit his head when he fell. The ground shook again and this time I heard footsteps coming our way. My body filled with panic as I tried to grab him and drag him behind a large post but with the broken leg it was kind of impossible. I bit my lip and got up, I whimpered in pain as I dragged him behind the post and collapsed. I looked to see some of the men that seemed to constantly surround Hammer running. They stopped short and I held my breath.
"W-we have to get out of here. They're here to kill if they don't find her."
"How the hell were we supposed to know the boy would help her escape?"
"That doesn't mean we won't be getting killed!" One of them snapped. I heard an oof and a few groans before it went silent. I peered over my shoulder and saw Thor standing over them.
"T-Thor!" I whimpered and crawled out from hiding. He whipped around his eyes set to kill but the moment his eyes landed on me they softened. He was over to me and Travis in a matter of seconds.
"We must get you out of here little one!" He said urgently.
"You need to get Travis out of here first!" I cried.
"No."
"Thor it's either him or both of us." I said. My jaw was clenched, I couldn't lose Travis, he was my best friend and I don't know how I was supposed to go on without my bestfriend. He looked down.
"I'm so sorry Marissa but I promise you I will come back for him."
I didn't get a chance to respond I had already been thrown over his shoulder and we were leaving.
"TRAVIS!" I screamed hoping he would stir but no such luck. He was out like a light and it was definetly not good thing. I saw a flash of red and gold before it was right in front of me. My eyes welled with tears, "Dad." I cried. Thor set me down and I was hugging my dad- Iron man not really my dad at the moment but I had no reason to complain.
"I'm so sorry babygirl." He whispered.
"Dad someone needs to go in there and get Travis! He's unconcious! He's hurt he saved me we nee-" The ground shook again, I looked up and watched as the old building slowly started to collapse in on itself, "Noo!" I struggled to get out of dads Iron grip as I watched at the building came crashing in on itself, "DAD TRAVIS WAS IN THERE! SOMEONE NEEDS TO FIND HIM!" I cried and fell to the ground. Clint and Thor were trying to loo for the rubble as I stared at the ground. My mind kept saying he would make it through this, because he had to. Who else would go the mall with me and point out cute guys? Or get me lunch at school because he always got out of class early? He's the reason I made friends this year, he was my bestfriend how could I let this happen? Why did this happen to him?
"I found him!" Clint screamed. Dad helped me over as Clint dragged him out of the wreckage. He looked absolutely terrible.
"Travis I need you to wake up." I cried as I slapped his face. Probably not the best but I didn't know what to do.
I watched as his finger twitched and his eyes opened halfway, "Missy." He whispered.
"Hang on Travis perimedics are gonna be here soon!" Nat said.
"No it's okay." He whispered with a small smile on his face. My eyebrows knit together.
"No it isn't, Travis you need medical attention."
He let out a small laugh, "I don't have that much time Missy but I did what I said, I said I would save you with my last dying breath." I felt the tears slowly leak out.
"I need my best friend." I managed to choke out.
"You'll have Michaela sweety don't fret. Everything will be okay."
"But I need you too." I reasoned.
He smiled before closing his eyes. I swallowed and looked up as the tears spilled down my cheeks.
