That afternoon, I walk I to the kitchen and see Ruby. I have a two and a half year old sister! She sits at the table drawing with crayons. I sit down beside her, Duff and Axl had gone out to get alcohol while my mom and prick were at bible study. They just lock Ruby in the house when they leave. It's surreal, we were dragged everywhere with our parents. Ruby looks over to me and smiles."What are you drawing?" I wonder looking at the picture.
"Our family." She says. "That's you, Axl, Duffy, me, mama, and daddy." She points to us and I can't help but laugh when she calls Duff, Duffy. "Over here is Izzy and Queenie, they're at Izzy's mama's."
"You like to draw?" I wonder and she nods. Ruby hands me a piece of paper and her box of crayons.
"You draw to, mama told me." She tells me.
Huh, mom always hated when I was drawing, she thought it killed brain cells. I pick up a crayon and I start drawing. I love art, I never thought I was any good until I started taking an art course at UCLA and got good grades.
I mindlessly draw while I think about my family, not my mom and Ruby. I mean my family in LA, we've become a big family. A fucking weird family but still a family. I look down to see the outline of a gun and a couple of roses. I smile as I start to colour it in with blacks, greys, whites, greens, and reds. I finish it and Ruby looks at it and her jaw dropped.
"You're really good." She smiles looking at the picture.
"Do you want it?" I wonder and she smiles brightly and nods.
I grab a red crayon and flip over the page. I scribble down the date then I write, even if I'm a million miles away I'm always with you, Ruby. I flip the page back over and hand it to her. Ruby gingerly puts it on the corner of the table, scared to take her eyes off it.
I look down at what she's wearing, my mom definitely dressed her. She wears a pink sun dress thing and I cringe.
"Hey Ruby?" I call and she looks over. "Wanna play a game?" I wonder and she lights up.
"Yeah, what's it called?" Ruby wonder happily.
"Get mom P-Oed." I say and she smiles.
"Okay." Ruby says and I pick her up and tote her into my room.
I drop her on my bed and she laughs. I sit in front of my dresser, I pull out the bottom drawer and look at all the clothes that are too small for me. I look over to her.
"Ruby sweetie, can you go grab me a pair of your jeans." I wonder and she nods and runs out of my room.
She returns with a pair of jeans and hands them to me. I thank her and she sits on the floor looking at my record collection. Ruby squealed when she saw Alice Cooper's From the Inside but quickly felt better when she saw The Beatles Yellow Submarine. I pull out the two smallest shirts I can find, an AC/DC one and a Van Halen. I look to my sister.
"AC/DC or Van Halen?" I ask her and she thinks for a minute.
"AC/DC." Ruby smiles and I nod.
I crop and cut the shirt until it fits her, I mutter curse words as I nearly cut myself on several occasions. I rip the neck so it hangs off her shoulder. I tell her to put on the jeans and the top and she listens happily. I grab a hair brush and some hair spray and sit her between my legs, I poof her hair out a little bit then tie one of Axl's old bandanas in her ginger hair.
