I pulled the little girls hand out of the water, took of her jacket and wrapped it tightly around her hand to stop the bleeding. All of a sudden, eight fins emerged from the water and spun around us in a tight circle. They seemed to be saying, 'now where are you gonna go?' I started to cry for help and saw a ladder leading to a window.
I was running through strategies in my head, swim past the sharks? Nope. Swim under the sharks? Nope. I was getting so frustrated I even had the thought of growing wings somehow and fly over the sharks. One thought came to me and I decided to give it a go. I started to slowly swim towards the ladder. Very slowly and the sharks still circled us but also very slowly moved as well. I swam so close that the sharks now circled the ladder and us.
I slowly moved up the ladder and as I stepped out of the water, I felt the weight of the now conscious little girl. Her eyes were wide in shock and I told her not to worry then asked her softly and quietly to climb the ladder. No answer came from her but she obediently started to climb the ladder.
I realised that the further we climbed, the wider the ladder got and in a couple of seconds, we were side by side. The window was thankfully slightly open and just as I opened it wider; I heard a sound, "Mummy." I groaned in frustration and when I stopped, heard a splashing sound of water. I looked and stared as the lady who I placed on the shelf, was well, still on the shelf and paddling with a long piece of coral, which must have floated, to the top. She got to us safely but as soon as she step to meet us on the ladder huge razor sharp teeth flew out and swallowed the plank of wood whole. The lady screamed and scurried up the ladder. She attempted to hug her daughter and then she looked deep into my eyes and, with tears in her eyes said "Thank you, my daughter could have died the most terrible way," then I saw a tear run down her cheek before she quickly wiped it away.
"Lets get out of here ay?" She said with great determination and we opened the window to a whole different world.
