An Accident

I wake up in my new brown bed and stretch. My pink tongue curls out of my mouth as I yawn. The big green tree is beside me, it's glistening lights very comforting on my eyes. Yesterday had been exciting, me being named Paws, being passed from hand to hand, watching with interest as Jamie ripped open the colorful things to reveal even more objects. It is still dark outside, so Jamie, Master, and my newly named Mistress are still up the stairs that leads to an unknown part of the huge den. I shiver. My brown fur is grown out, but it is still cold. I carefully step out of the bed, and pad over to the window in the wall opposite to me. I am too small to see out. The darkness surrounding me is not helping either.  I look around to see what I can do while waiting for the humans to come down. Then I notice a big bulky tan colored thing in the corner away from me. I curiously run over to it and leap onto its surface. It is soft! And the best part is, now I can see out of the window. It is snowing! The delicate white flakes drift down from the grey sky. Everything is peaceful.
"WHAT IS THAT DOG DOING ON MY COUCH!" screams Mistress, coming down the stairs in a hurry. What is a couch? This big soft thing? Uh-oh. I cower on the couch, making myself as small as possible. Mistress storms over and grabs my neck scruff that my creature used to take me in her mouth by. I whimper and look up at her with my frightened puppy eyes. She pays no mind to them and simply hisses, "No. Bad Dog. Very Bad Dog. BAD!"
I avert my eyes and bury my snout in the couch cushion.
"Off!" Mistress says fiercely. I creep off and drop to the floor. Mistress follows me with her eyes. The last time I was this scared was when me and my creature were torn apart. I have to show submission to my Mistress. And so I lift my leg and let a few drops of pee fall to the shiny wooden floor. Then I slink over to my designated bed and lie down, satisfied. Mistress looks confused for a second, then angry. Why is she angry? I am just telling her that she is in charge.
She gets up slowly and walks over to the spot where my urine is. She shakes her head. I thought she would come over to me and yell at me again, but instead she abruptly turns and stomps up the stairs. I am puzzled. Where did she go and why? Isn't she mad at me for some reason? Then Mistress comes back down the stairs with Master right behind her. Oh no. I like Master a lot and don't want him mad at me too! But unlike Mistress, the look in his eyes is sad, not angry.
"One more incident like these ones, and that dog is out of my house, Robert!" Mistress says, barely keeping her voice below a shout.
"Our house, Sarah. And Paws is just a puppy. He doesn't know any better!" Master says, trying to calm Mistress.
"He peed on the floor right in front of me!"
"He was nervous!"
"He was on the white leather couch! His nails probably scratched up the cushions so much that we don't even recognize them!"
"Listen. Jamie loves him. If Paws hurts Jamie in any way, we will think about places we can bring him. But, for now, we keep him."
"Fine," Mistress says, sighing.
She shuffles over to the couch and sits down, but I can tell she is not happy with me or Master. I whine softly and try to go back to sleep. The snow continues to fall outside of the den.
