He didn't move.
Not even when the door clicked shut behind her.
Jungkook stayed exactly where she had left him, still half-hovering above the mattress, staring at the empty space she'd occupied just seconds ago.
The room suddenly felt too quiet.
Too empty.
Too fucking confusing.
His chest tightened-not because of what almost happened.
Because of what didn't.
She didn't say yes.
But she didn't say no either.
And somehow, that made everything worse.
With a frustrated groan, Jungkook dropped back onto the bed and dragged both hands down his face.
"What does that even mean?" he muttered to himself.
His eyes squeezed shut.
Because she leaned in.
She leaned in.
He knew she did.
He wasn't imagining it.
She hadn't pulled away. She hadn't stopped him. Hell, she'd even moved closer.
So why did it still feel like she was slipping through his fingers?
Jungkook sat up again almost immediately, too restless to stay still.
One second she looked at him like she wanted the same thing.
The next second she was gone.
And now he was left sitting here trying to figure out whether he'd completely misread everything.
His jaw tightened.
Maybe she only froze because she didn't know what to do.
Maybe she leaned in because she felt pressured.
Maybe she didn't want him at all.
The thoughts came one after another, each one worse than the last.
"Fuck."
He grabbed the pillow beside him and threw it across the room.
Instantly regretting it.
Then grabbed another pillow and hugged it against his chest instead.
Because none of this made sense.
Not her.
Not him.
Not whatever this thing between them had become.
And then there was Hoseok.
The memory of yesterday flashed through his head again.
The way Hoseok had looked at her.
The way he stepped between them.
The way Y/N had looked confused every time either of them got too close.
Jungkook let out a frustrated breath and dropped his head back against the headboard.
Was she confused because of him?
Because of Hoseok?
Because of someone else?
Or was she simply trying to find a reason not to choose anyone?
And then her phone rang.
Of course it did.
Of course it was Jane.
Of course somebody else got her attention right when he thought-just for one second-that maybe she was finally looking at him.
He wasn't angry at Jane.
But God, he was tired.
Tired of feeling like he was always waiting.
Always guessing.
Always trying to figure out where he stood with her.
A quiet laugh escaped him, humourless and bitter.
"Why can't you just tell me what you want?"
His voice barely filled the room.
Because if she rejected him, at least he'd know.
If she chose someone else, at least he'd know.
But this?
This endless maybe?
This was torture.
Jungkook glanced toward the door one last time before looking down at the sheets she'd left behind.
Her scent still lingered there.
Soft.
Familiar.
Dangerous.
He closed his eyes.
And for the first time since she'd walked away, he wasn't sure whether he wanted her to come back into the room...
Or whether he was terrified of what she'd say when she did.
