Y/N quietly pushed the bedroom door open and stepped inside.
The room was still dim, illuminated only by the faint glow of the city lights filtering through the curtains.
Jungkook was exactly where she had left him.
Lying on the bed.
Waiting.
His eyes immediately found hers the moment she entered.
Y/N's heart squeezed.
He looked like he wanted to say something.
Like he had been thinking too much while she was gone.
Slowly, she walked over and sat down on her side of the bed.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
The silence stretched between them, heavy with everything that had happened earlier.
The almost kiss.
The confession.
The questions neither of them knew how to answer.
Then Jungkook finally broke the silence.
"Is everything okay with Jane?"
His voice was casual.
Too casual.
Y/N knew he was trying.
Trying not to bring up what happened before she left.
Trying not to sound disappointed.
Trying not to sound hurt.
She offered him a small smile.
"Yeah. Everything's fine."
Jungkook nodded quietly.
"Really?"
"Really," she assured him. "She was just updating me about things back home. Nothing serious."
For a brief second, relief flickered across his face.
"Oh."
Y/N nodded.
"Yeah."
Another silence settled between them.
This one slightly less painful.
Slightly.
Feeling exhausted, Y/N slowly lay down on the bed and pulled the blanket over herself.
She kept her back facing him.
Not because she wanted distance.
But because she still didn't know what to do with the emotions swirling inside her chest.
A few seconds later, she felt the mattress shift.
Jungkook had laid down beside her.
Neither of them spoke.
Jungkook stared up at the ceiling.
His thoughts were running wild again.
Part of him wanted to ask.
Wanted to know what her silence earlier meant.
Wanted to know if she had almost kissed him because she wanted to-or because she simply didn't know how to stop him.
But another part of him was exhausted.
Maybe he should stop pushing.
Maybe he should just let her breathe.
