Park Chaeyoung grew up learning that silence was safer than trust. After surviving two separate assaults in her past, she stopped believing the world was something that protected her. Instead, she learned to survive it. Depression settled into her life quietly, like rain that never stopped. Sleep became dangerous because even in sleep, she would wander. So doctors prescribed sleeping pills to keep her still but even stillness came at a cost. She lived alone in a small apartment and every morning at 6:00 a.m., before the world fully woke up, she went to the same cafe. Not because she loved coffee but because it was the only thing that made her feel awake enough to exist. That cafe was called Midnight Brew and the owner was Jimin
Park Jimin was known for his smile. Carefree. Easygoing. Always joking with customers but no one noticed that he remembered everything. Who liked sugar in their coffee. Who came in tired. Who never spoke unless spoken to and Rose... was the only one who never changed. So he started preparing her order before she even arrived.
At first, they were nothing. Just barista and customer but silence has a way of becoming conversation when repeated long enough. One morning, she said:
> "Thank you."
And Jimin realized it wasn't the words that mattered. It was the fact that she chose to speak them to him.
Rose never told him about her nightmares. Never told him about why she flinched at sudden movements. Never told him that sleepwalking wasn't just a condition it was a risk she couldn't control but Jimin noticed the bruises on her feet. The exhaustion in her eyes and one day, he gently said
> "You don't have to handle everything alone but don't change your medication without a doctor. Just... don't disappear on me, okay?"
Rose didn't answer but something inside her shifted because no one had ever asked her to stay before
That night, she made a decision on her own. She stopped taking the sleeping pills. She wanted control. She wanted to feel normal but trauma does not disappear just because someone wishes it would.
That same night, rain fell heavily over the city. Rose sleepwalked out of her apartment. Barefoot. Unaware. Crossing a road she shouldn't have crossed and fate unforgiving and blind did not slow down. A car struck her.
