A/N I've been sorting out some stories that I hadn't quite finished, or that needed some work. So more updates! That's it for the moment, but I have more to write... Another Astoria story, but she is very different in this One Shot 😊

Harry drew the pile of paperwork across his desk towards him with a heavy sigh.

The sigh was because it was terribly boring checking the details and statistics of the department's call-outs, cases, weekly arrests, and case closures. And that was just one of the rather tall stacks of paper that really didn't interest him, but all of which needed careful attention by him and reading through, preferably by Monday morning. There were also stacks of papers regarding inmates in the holding cells and their forthcoming preliminary hearing dates, upcoming court cases, prisoners named for transportation to Azkaban, new cases and cold-case documents that needed assignment, and interdepartmental quangos and working parties in the Ministry. Then there was the in-tray full of memos from Kingsley and his boss, and all the demands the Head of Department entailed. Finally, there was the envelope that sat to one side like a huge Erumpent in the room. It was regarding the job offer for the Head of the DLME. Harry was definitely avoiding that one, no matter how much Kingsley was pushing him to take it. It made Harry cringe, mostly because people had opinions, usually along the lines of viewing the job of 'Auror' or even 'Head Auror' as below a man of Harry's credentials and far below his ranking in the Wizengamot. Kingsley wasn't the only one pushing for Harry to take a more politically visible role in Magical society.

What he really needed was Minerva to agree to his terms; then this current situation would be solved: boredom, pressure, and all. Well, perhaps not; it might be a case of the grass not actually being greener. Perhaps he'd find the same boredom, pressure, and all wherever he went. He feared that he was running away, always searching for an alternative way to fill a gaping hole in his heart. He knew what caused the hole but refused to face that truth, instead making do as best he could, albeit temporarily.

Harry's mobile phone pinged. He checked the phone on his desk before realising it was his other phone.

He pulled a second phone from his pocket and unlocked it with a nervous delight because a rare notification had flashed up.

Peanut:

We're in the shit!

Harry knew his reaction should be panic or worry, but his mouth twitched. He felt a surge of excitement. It was a call to action. A pull he couldn't resist. He pushed the pile of paperwork back into the spot that Diedre had meticulously left it in.

Oh? Explain.

Rico's had to take an emergency Portkey to Sicily. Family emergency: his Nonna's on her deathbed.

He had a job. High profile and big money. Boss, you might need to step in. Only thing is, it's a bigger job than you usually take; it's a full weekender. Two nights staying over.

Okay. What was arranged? What can you tell me?

Harry felt a spark... A thrill... It coursed through his blood...

The problem was, given the lack of satisfaction with how his life had turned out after the war, Harry got bored far too easily. Yes, there was the aforementioned hole but really, life was mundane, even as the Boy who Lived Twice (aka the Saviour, Vanquisher, or other various names), a Very Important Auror, now Head Auror, maybe HoD of the DMLE / maybe new Defence Professor at Hogwarts, plus the various titles of Ancient and Noble Houses, House of Antiquity, and Founder's Seat that Gringotts had joyfully announced after the war, etcetera, etcetera — it all felt very shallow and meaningless. And boring.
