Dean opens the door to the house and Sam runs past him. Cas makes Dean go in first before following after. Dean shuts the door and Sam flops onto the couch and turns the TV on.
"Cas come on!" Sam calls. Cas walks into the living room and sits next to Sam. Dean travels upstairs at a slow pace, his leg is sore but he doesn't want to be dependant on Cas. Or anyone for that matter. He limps to him room and looks at where his dad was. Everything is clean. No blood anywhere, like nothing ever happened. Dean kneels down and picks up the bullets from the carpet. He observes them sadly. He quietly limps over to his bed and shoves the bullets in his nightstand drawer before flopping down on the bed with relief. Something about the fact that Dean was now safe made him feel a certain bit of emptyness inside. His stomach fluttered. He disn't have to worry about coming home and being beaten to the ground. Sam was safe. Everything felt too easy.
"Come on, Sammy. I'll do it." Cas's voice says from down the hall.
"Hold on." Sam responds. He runs into Dean's room and hugs Dean carefully.
"It's okay, Dean. It will all be okay." Sam whispers and says goodnight before running back to his room. Several minutes later Cas wanders in the room and stands in the doorframe.
"You can come in you know. My room isn't cursed." Dean says.
I am. He thinks but keeps the fact to himself.
"Are you okay?" Cas asks softly.
"No." Dean admits quietly. Cas sits on the bed beside Dean so their shoulders are touching. Dean feels a warm wave spread through him immediately. He can trust Cas.
"Why?" Cas asks.
"Because my dad isn't beating me to the point of being unconscious." Dean says.
"He did that?" Cas asks.
"Better me than Sam." Dean points out as he plays with his hands.
"You are safe now. I'm not leaving you or Sam." Cas informs. Dean just nods.
"You should get some rest." Cas says sliding off the bed.
"No wait." Dean says reaching out and pinching Cas's shirt. Cas turns and looks at Dean with a gentle look. Dean looks back with a terrified look on his face.
"I can't stay in this room alone, Cas. My dad died at the foot of my bed." Dean's voice says unevenly. Cas loops an arm around Dean's shoulders and sits on the bed next to him. Dean leans his head on Cas's shoulder and Cas rests his head on Dean's.
"Thank you." Dean whispers.
"Anything for you." Cas replies. Dean falls asleep the easiest he ever has with Cas's arm around him.
