Dean wakes up to the sound of distant laughing. He looks around and notices that Cas isn't in the room. He rubs his eyes and looks to the foot of his bed. John is standing there with a sad but proud expression on his face. Dean crawls away so fast he falls off the bed. He looks back but John is gone. There is some thudding and Cas comes into the room.
"Dean?" He asks lookin down at the clustered ball on the ground.
"I can't do it. I can't stay in a room alone." Dean whispers.
"Up. Come on." Cas yanks Dean up and ushers him downstairs.
"Food!" Sam cheers with cheeks full of it. Dean laughs at the sight.
"Want some?" Cas asks.
"Sure." Dean agrees sitting next to Sam at the table.
"When do we start repainting stuff?" Sam asks, gulping the food down.
"Today." Dean declares.
"Cas helps?!" Sam questions.
"Cas helps me." Dean points out ruffling his little brothers hair.
"Okay." Sam says. His answer muffled by pancake. Cas smiles at Dean and Dean winks at Cas with a smile.~~
"We're back Dean!" Sam calls.
"Hey." Dean says limping to the door.
"We got paint. Dark grey and white." Cas says holding up four buckets.
"Okay. We do our rooms first." Dean instructs. Sam tosses the back of paint brushes, rollers and trays at Dean before trotting upstairs.
"Bitch." Dean comments.
"Jerk!" Sam calls from upstairs. Cas walks upstairs and puts the paint down before turning to Dean.
"What?" Dean asks.
"Nothing." Cas replies staring at Dean's mezmorizing green eyes.
"Okay." Dean says. He dumps some grey paint in a tray and walks it to Sam's room. All three of them spent the morning packing up all their stuff into boxes and taking apart their bed frames and everything.
"You bought all new stuff?" Cas asks.
"My dad had a safe downstairs with probably around a million dollars stashed. So yes. I bought all new stuff. And tore my carpet off the floor." Dean says.
"Why?" Cas questions.
"I'm putting a new carpet down. Same with Sam's room." Dean says dragging a tray of paint across the room.
"What about your dad's room?" Cas asks.
"It's at the end of the hall. You can go look at it if you'd like." Dean informs as he presses down some tape around the windowframe.
"Okay. Be back in a minute." Cas says. He walks down the hall and opens a the door at the very end of the hall. It is incredibly neat. The bed is made with dark grey comforter with white pillow cases as a nice accent. The furniture is all dark wood. There is a gentle light being emmit from candles that are lit around the room. Cas trails his hands along the dresser as he walks, he stops to look at a picture. The first one he recognizes is Dean. He gingerly touches the photo.
"It won't bite." Dean says quietly from the door. He looks so comfortable when he enters the room. He relaxes immediately and has a gentle smile on his face. Cas picks up the picture. Dean walks over and looks at the picture in Cas's hands.
"Me, Sam, My mom and my dad." Dean says pointing to each happy face in turn.
"You keep the room in good shape?" Cas asks, setting down the photo.
"My dad refuses to come in the room since mom died. I try to keep the memories alive and the room like my mom liked it." Dean explains.
"Why did your dad not like coming in here?" Cas asks. Dean paises and watches the way that Castiel treats everything like if he touches it, it will shatter. Dean has a sudden thought that he wants to be handled like that. Like if someone were to hurt him, he would shatter. Part of him wishes that it would be that simple to disappear.
"It was a reminder of when we were all happy." Dean whispers.
"He didn't like being happy?" Cas turns to look at Dean who has tears pooling in the corners of his eyes.
"He believed that Sam and I didn't deserve happiness because we killed her." Dean looks to the ground. Cas walks over to Dean and stands a few inches away. He lifts Dean's head with one finger and his thumb until Dean looks into Cas's eyes.
"You deserve anything you want, Dean." Cas whispers with a soft smile.
"I just want to get rid of the bad memories and make new ones." Dean says.
"You want nothing else?" Cas asks.
"You." Dean says in an almost inaudible tone. Cas smiles at Dean with a brilliant smile.
"You have no idea how long I have been waiting to hear that." Cas informs.
"Let's go paint." Dean says and takes Cas's wrist. He drags him out of the room and closes the door. Dean walks into Sam's room and stops dead in his tracks. The paint is everywhere except the walls.
"How?!" Dean asks gesturing to a paint covered Sam.
"I would rather not speak of this, right now." Sam sighs. Dean laughs and closes the door again.
"You won't be the only one covered in paint soon." Dean says quietly to himself.
