Amber's POV

Harry pressed his foot down hard on the accelerator, the car roaring at the speed we were travelling. I glanced to the backseat where Ella was asleep and then looked to the rear view mirrors. The car that was tailing us was slipping further and further into the distance. They obviously didn't expect Harry to 'borrow' a bloody Mercedes.

"We can't turn back." He says, breaking the silence. "They'll be expecting us to take Ella back to the protection of the CIA."

"I agree, but what are we going to do? We can't run away forever." I tell him

"We need to make contact with them, they can send backup and we can work something out." He runs a hand through his hair, one hand still on the wheel, and lets out a frustrated breath

"We'll be in deep shit. We practically failed our mission." I groan inwardly at the prospect of having to face management. I wasn't scared. I was beyond annoyed at my stupidity to keep the President and his family safe.

Harry grimaced slightly and I can tell his is picturing our punishment. The CIA don't take failures lightly. In fact, the last time someone failed they were fired and sworn to secrecy. Not only that, but they had their apartment stripped and all of their awards and medals taken. It was a young man named Connor. It was two years ago. Back when I first started

"We should contact them still. At least tell them our plan. And if they won't support us then we'll do it for the country. Not them." He tells me and it seems like a pretty decent plan. Considering we were doomed either way.

We sat in silence for a few minutes before a voice broke it. "Why don't you just kill me." Ella speaks from behind and I spin to face her. I am surprised by her outburst, who in the right mind would volunteer to kill themselves. I guess if it came down to me I would die for the protection of others, but Ella was different. She wasn't the problem. The key was.

"No that's not an option." I tell her sternly, "If you were to die then your death would be meaningless. They do not care about your state. They want the key. In fact, they would probably kill you just to make the removal of the key easier." She nods numbly and I immediately feel bad.

"We won't let them hurt you Ella." Harry speaks softly, surprising me with his change of tone. Ella seemed somewhat happy with Harry's response until she spoke up again.

"So I'll be running for my whole life?" At her question I quickly shake my head

"That won't happen. Once we are rid of the people after the key, we can remove it if you want. It is too risky to remove it while they are after you. You'd be in your most vulnerable position." I told her

"How long until this is all over?" She sighs and I bite my lip

"I have no idea."

The sky had darkened, the sun a small glimmer on the horizon. We hadn't stopped except for petrol and barely knew where we were heading. All we knew was that we needed to keep Ella safe. It was the least we could do after failing the president.

"We can stay the night here." Harry says, pulling over at a rundown motel. We get out of the car carefully, making sure no one was watching us. We don't bother with the bags, and head straight to the front desk. "Room for three please. One night" Harry asks the man curtly and he nods before telling Harry the price. Harry digs cash from his wallet before Ella and I follow him to our room. Thankfully there are three separate beds and I see Ella collapse on one already. I am equally tired.

"We'll leave dawn." Harry says before tugging his shirt off. I try to keep my eyes off him, but luckily his back faces me so he doesn't see me admiring him. His back muscles flex as he sets his bed up. I quickly avert my gaze as he turns back around with a smirk.
