Amber's POV
Harry and I stood anxiously outside the operating room where they were currently putting Ella under anesthetics. I didn't trust them one bit, but I did trust Harry when he said that it would work. He was determined and I deemed it our only possible way of getting out of this mess. Of course we were kept under high security, but it wasn't as tight, seeing that we had agreed not to do anything stupid.
Every second I stood around Matthew, I had to bite my tongue to stop myself from screaming and raging at him. How was I supposed to keep my cool while I was standing with the man who murdered my parents for no apparent reason. It was almost as torturous as the serum that Connor had injected me with. Speaking of Connor, I hadn't seen him since he came in to mock my pain and for that it was a relief, as I am sure that I wouldn't be able to control myself around him.
We could only watch through the one way glass as they cut into Ella's abdomen. Surprisingly, they were actually cautious with their equipment, and I must admit I thought they wouldn't have any specialised equipment. But the fact that they do makes them even more dangerous, as it means they are obviously being funded by something or someone to afford the money for all of this.
I felt Harry tense as they inserted hook like tools into the body. I couldn't help but squirm a little at the gruesome sight.
"You okay?"' I ask Harry quietly
"Yeah." He says, his voice pained, "It's just-"
He doesn't finish, and I can't help but feel a pang of jealousy that he cares so much about Ella. "It's okay Harry."
"She reminds me so much of Gemma." He whispers almost inaudibly but I catch it just in time.
"Gemma?" I ask, trying to think of who Gemma could be. A past love? Maybe a family member?
"She was my sister." Is all he says, and I immediately feel guilty for becoming jealous of Ella. Harry sees her as no more than a sisterly figure.
"Is Gemma..." I am not sure how to ask him, so I just say it bluntly. "Alive?"
He stays silent, staring straight ahead, and I take that as a no. I rub his back warmly, familiar to the feeling of losing a sibling.
"Older or younger?" I speak quietly, aware of the guards just a meter away from us.
"She is older by three years." He speaks monotonously.
I frown at the use of present tense, but it was probably a common mistake. I remember after Jake disappeared I refused to acknowledge that he was probably dead, so I always referred to him in present tense. I stopped when I started in the FBI.
"I'm sorry." I reach down and squeeze his hand and he gives a light smile.
My attention is brought back the operation when Matthew enters the room, a small smirk on his face. As he enters, one doctor holds a tray and offers it to him. Matthew takes a look on what is on the tray then gives a satisfied nod. It didn't take an idiot to figure out that they had removed the final part of the key.
I looked at Harry, but his face wasn't giving away any signs of what we do next, so my best guess is to just follow his lead. He better know what he is doing.
Matthew walks out, pocketing the key. "Ella will now be escorted safely out of the building, and will be dropped off at the nearest bus stop."
"Bus stop?" I scoff, "You've got be fucking kidding me right? You will not drop her off at a fucking bus stop, you will fucking take her to where she wants to be."
Matthew shrugs, "Sorry sweet pea."
I am about to shout something very inappropriate when Harry grabs my arm, "Amber, don't. It's fine."
