His gaze was steady, but mine was steadier as I watched.

"Sweetheart, I've never loved anyone like I loved you. And I never will. All this time, I carried you with me. I don't care how far you were, or how impossible it seemed, I never let go."

I took another drag from my cigar, listening as Bianca and Jude's conversation continued through the phone on my desk.

"Jude..." Her voice was quiet, trembling slightly, as though she were fighting back tears. "You don't know what it took for me to come back... to be here."

"I don't care what it took," he said quickly. "All I care about is that you're here. That you're real. That you're in front of me right now. That I can finally tell you I never stopped loving you. Not once. And I never will."

I took a slow sip of bourbon, forcing myself to remain calm. There was a pause.

I hated that I couldn't see them, I hated that I drew the line at putting cameras in rooms.

I had access to almost everything on Bianca's phone. Her messages. Her emails. Her social media accounts. Her calls. Even the video calls, though all I could hear was the audio on my end.

I could hear every word.

But I couldn't see her face.

And right now, I would have given anything to know what she looked like while another man told her he loved her. While he told her that he loves her.

"I... I needed to hear that," she whispered.

My hand slammed against the table. The glass beside me rattled. I clenched my jaw and forced myself to stay in my seat.

"I need to see you," Jude said again, his voice lower now.

"I told you... not yet."

I raised a brow and slowly put out my cigar. Not yet? Interesting. What exactly was she planning?

"Tell me why I shouldn't," Jude said, a trace of irritation creeping into his voice. "Tell me one reason you won't let me come to you right now."

I could give him a reason.

Several, actually.

The first being that if he came anywhere near her, I'd have someone put a bullet through his head before he ever got the chance to lay eyes on her.
