Chapter 7: Ready...Set...Chicken!I grab my purse and head out the door, snatching my keys from my bowl.
"Are you going to tell me where we're going," Cameron whines.
I smirk. "Nope," I answer, popping the p.
She groans but follows me to the elevator. She taps her foot impatiently as we rode down to the ground level. I smirk the whole time, knowing she is the most impatient person I know.
We head to the apartment parking garage, and step into my Volkswagen. My dad kept pestering me that he could have bought me a nicer car, but I refuse to take handouts from him.
I pull out of the parking garage, and drive down the road, humming to West Coast. Huge surprise, right?
We continue driving to our destination, Cameron asking questions the whole time.
"Can you give me a hint?"
"Are we there yet?"
"Is it food?"
I laugh, and shake my head. I pull into the parking lot of our place, and Cameron gasps.
"Rock climbing?! You're taking me rock climbing?! Oh my goodness, I love you so much!"
She squeezes me into a tight hug, knocking the breath out of me.
I chuckle. "Yeah, yeah. Love ya, too, but don't squeeze me to death before I even have a chance to go climb some rocks."
She lets go, laughing.
"C'mon! Let's go!"
She scrambles out of the car, bouncing on her feet. I swear, it's like she's six instead of sixteen.
We head into the place, and I pull out the online waiver from my purse.
"Hi," the girl at the front desk greets, when we approach. "Welcome to The Stronghold Climbing Gym! Is this your first time?"
"I've been rock climbing before, but she hasn't," I say, placing my hand on Cameron's shoulder.
"Okay, cool! So what are you interested in? Would you like to take a class?"
I shake my head. "No thanks. Just a day pass and the equipment."
"Okay. The day passes are twenty dollars. And you can rent a package with all the gear, which is cheaper, or rent it separately."
"Alright, we'll take the package."
"Okay, I'll have that right for you! Shoes sizes?"
"Eight and seven."
The girl turns and heads into a back room.
"You have big feet," Cameron states, looking at my feet.
"Shut up, I'm taking you rock climbing."
She laugh and shakes her head.
"Are you excited?"
"That would be an understatement," Cameron says, smiling.
I laugh, and the girl comes back out, carrying shoes, harnesses, and a chalk bag. She hands it to us, and I help Cameron with her harness. I drop my purse and Cameron's stuff into one of the bins.
When we finish, the girl briefs us on the safety rules and explains the different zones.
"Hope you have fun!"
We enter the room, and look around. There all types of courses.
"You wanna show me how it's done," Cameron asks, looking around curiously.
