Chapter Nine: Surprises, Forgotten Bouquets, & More Surprises

"What are you doing here!" I say, taking a step back. Sophie stumbles with me, our arms still connected.

David was standing with a bouquet of flowers, his other hand in his pocket. When he heard my voice, he turned, a smile on his face. He took several long strides. He pressed a kiss to my lips, handing me the roses. My arms fell away from Sophie's as he pulled me into a hug, kissing my cheek. Cameras were already flashing.

His actions shocked me into silence, but I quickly regained myself. I shoved him in the chest, away from me, a disguised look on my face.

"What are you doing here!"

"What do you mean? I came for you," he said, a smile still on his face.

"You don't get it do you?" I asked, starting to find this funny. "I broke up with you. Do you know what that means? It means that you and me are not together! Do you understand?"

His smile fell. "Ree, what are you talking about? Today's our one year anniversary, you didn't forget, did you?"

My mouth fell open, and my hands went to my hips. "You delusional, conniving, son of a bitch!"

His eyebrows knit in confusion. "What are you talking about?"

"What am I talking about? You cheated on me with three girls! Three!"

"Ree-"

"Don't call me that," I said through gritted teeth.

His eyes looked pained. "Bree... I would never do that. I love you."

I shook my head, a layer of tears on my eyes. I swallowed, a lump forming in my throat. My jaw was tight, my lips pressed, trying to hold back tears. I took a shaky breath.

"Then why did you do it," I asked, my voice delicate.

David shook his head. "I don't know what you're talking about."

I shook my head, a tear falling down my cheek. I hastily wiped it off. I would not show the pain he inflicted. That's what he wants.

"Leave."

"What," he asked, slightly confused.

"Leave. I don't want to see you."

He looked pained, genuinely, but quickly covered it. After a deep breath and a curt nod, he started leaving.

"Good luck," he said, as he pushed his way past me.

His presence left a heavy silence, all except the flashing of cameras and the music coming from the next room over.

"Are you okay," Sophie asked, approaching me.

I bit my lip and nodded, staring at the bouquet that lay forgotten on the floor. She placed her hand on my shoulder and gave a gentle squeeze.

"I'll be back."

Without waiting for a reply, I turned on my heel and went through one of the side halls that was unoccupied. After a few turns, I was lead to a door. I pushed it open, not caring about where it lead to.

I stepped through the doorway and was lead to a beautiful garden. There were flowers and trees everywhere and a paved pathway leading through the beautiful plants with benches dotted here and there. I walked along the pathway, looking to the beautiful flowers and letting my tears run down my cheeks. I didn't bother wiping them away, not caring since nobody was around.

After a while, the path lead to a small pond, and I took a seat on the grass. I could care less about the dress right now. I looked out at the pond. The sun was just setting, and it made the scenery even more beautiful. I took in a deep breath and tried to keep it steady as I released it.

"Are you alright?"

The familiar voice startled me, but I turned my head to see. Jake was standing on the pathway, his hands in his pockets. He was wearing a navy blue suit with a matching tie.

I bit my lip, pondering whether I should tell him or not.

"It's complicated."

He nodded in compliance. "Well if you need a set of ears..."

"It was my ex. He just decided to show up and I don't know, tried to make everything up for me, but I don't know what to do."

He sat down, ignoring the fact that his expensive tuxedo was being ruined. "Well... you could talk maturely about it with him, or you could just ignore it but then it may get worse."

I took his words into consideration. I pondered what I would do. Could I take it if he showed up again.

Finally making up my mind, i stood up and brushed my dress off.

"Thanks for the advice," I smiled, which he returned.

"No problem."

I stood for a moment, before giving a small wave and quickly making my way back to the building. I ran to the lobby and exited to the valet parking.

I spotted who I was looking for, and shouted, trying to wave them down.

"David! Wait up!"

Pic up above is what I thought looked the closest to the garden in the end^^^
