Chapter 5: Real Facts & New CasasI woke up to my alarm the next morning. I turn over and grab my phone off my nightstand, trying to swipe it off.
I sighed in contentment when the annoying ringing stopped. I rubbed my eyes and tried to adjust to the bright sun already shining through the crack in my curtain.
I really need some thicker curtains.
I rubbed a hand over my face, still tired. Cameron was still snoring away next to me, per usual. I swung my legs over my bed, and started getting ready. I went through my clothes, which were half unpacked, and got dressed.
I pulled on a grey crop top with a knot in the bottom, a blue circle skirt, and my high top black Converse. I pulled my hair into a messy bun and threw a headband on top to cover up some of my bed head. I put in gold starfish earrings and gold bangles.
I lightly applied makeup, trying to keep it natural. They would be recording our practice, and I was trying to give off that girly look, since that was the person I am.
I stepped into the kitchen to see Aunt Jane, once again, cooking away.
"You know you don't have to do this," I told her, taking a seat at the counter.
"Yes I do," she countered. "You're my little girl, and you know that you're gonna miss my cooking," she teased, pointing her spatula at me.
"That is pretty true," I said, laughing.
"Oh, you know it," she answered, winking.
I checked my phone, waiting for breakfast. I had an email about the "welcome party." I open it and begin to read.
Dear participants,
We will be celebrating your amazing performances with a party. It will be formal attire, and you may bring ONE GUEST ONLY! This celebration will be held on Friday, October 2nd. If you will be joining us, please RSVP by Thursday, October 1st. Please add your plus one as well.
The email went on about other details and where it will be held
Sincerely,
The Just Sing Committee
"Whatcha got there?" Sophie asked.
"The email about the party congratulating our amazing performances."
"Don't get all cocky on me now," Sophie said, slapping my arm.
"That's seriously what they said, though."
She opened up her own email on her phone and read through the first sentence.
"Oh."
"Yeah, silly," I said, slapping her arm.
"Breakfast's ready," Aunt Jane said.
"Mmm, thanks," I answered as she set a plate of pancakes in front of me.
"No smiley face?" I whined, jutting out my bottom lip.
"Sorry," she drawled. "I didn't realize that my niece was a five year old stuck in an eighteen year olds body."
"Hey! Rude!" I said, cutting up my pancake.
She rolled her eyes, and gave Sophie her plate of pancakes.
"Thanks, Aunt Jane!" She said, digging in.
"Aunt Jane?" I asked through a mouthful of pancakes.
