PERCY'S POV
Heartbreak is quite a funny thing in reality.
You're so content with someone after a time that your relationship with them is just simple harmony; no words are needed to express your fondness for them or vise versa. You still have the feelings in your heart, you just don't really understand them. They don't make themselves known, but oh they are there, just like the stars continue to shine on a cloudy night.
Percy now understood his feelings for Nico better than he had ever understood anything.
Nico was gone, and so the feelings made themselves known again. The fire in Percy's heart reignited and the sadness of his lover's betrayal struck harder than stone against glass.
The memory of Neek's raven black hair flashed through Percy's mind. The way his nose scrunched up when he laughed and oh, the sound of his voice... Percy needed him, and he hated himself for that.
Percy knew he ought to be angry, but all he could feel was sadness. He missed Nico more than he wanted to let on.
So, as Percy ran through the quiet terrain of camp, he let his thoughts tear him apart. Destroy him and break him beyond repair. The words hurt so badly that Percy half expected his heart to stop from the amount of pain coursing through his chest.
Is this how Nico used to feel every day?
If so, Percy couldn't blame Nico for feeling so angry at a time. What was odd was that Percy knew that there was a time when Nico was always angry and sad, yet he could not remember any of it. Percy knew that it had to do with their odd memory loss of the last few months. The mystery behind that, Percy decided, would remain unsolved. For now, at least.
Percy hated unsolved mysteries and evidence that led nowhere. Perhaps that's why Percy couldn't stand Nico's endless clues and meaningless hints. They all seemed to lead Percy down a darker road.
Oh well. Curiosity did kill the cat and Percy was too curious for his own good.
So, he continued to play Nico's little game. His heart broke with each clue he found. Percy didn't know what would happen when he reached the end of the trail.
He didn't know if he could even handle it. Still, he searched.
Percy had scoured the entire camp by now with no result. He was beginning to wonder if this whole thing was a decoy to lead Percy away from what was truly happening. That terrified him, really. Yet something told him that Nico wouldn't be that smart. He wouldn't think that deeply about this. Nico was a fairly smart person, yes, but still a basic thinker at that. No, Percy just decided that it would make more sense for Nico to stick to the game.
The game. Oh, Percy hated that. He hated how he had gotten stuck in this trap. Nico was manipulative, Percy knew that now. He had spun Percy in his web then sucked the life out of him. Percy hated that he had been deceived so easily.
He hated that he had trusted Nico so easily.
For a time, everything was perfect. Percy and Nico would go on dates and laugh together. They'd hold hands and just feel the bliss of being together. All was well. There were minimal arguments, usually over small meaningless problems, but it was always resolved with a hug and an "I love you." The large arguments, however, were not solved with such easy maneuvers.
