Madi clung to me the next day or two. She wouldn't leave my side for anything. I could see that it was pissing Ell off, but I was pissed off he was sneaking out in the middle of the night. I swear to God, if I found him with another woman I would destroy him. That was the only feasible option for me, if he were going to the cops we'd be beyond arrested by now. I wasn't about to let him hurt my baby sister, even if she was pissed at me at the moment.
"What do you wanna do today, Madi?" I asked her while we ate breakfast one morning.
"Go to the park!" She exclaimed, clapping her hands. I nodded and helped her off of her make shift high chair.
"Get dressed like a big girl and we can go. There's clothes laid out on my bed." She nodded and ran upstairs.
"I'm not going to let you corrupt her, Riker," Ellington whispered to me. I rolled my eyes and spun around.
"And I'm not going to tolerate you sneaking out late," I hissed, "You cheating on your wife?"
"I would never," he said, "it's none of your damn business. I'm taking care of her, unlike you." He held up a bottle of pills, "I was getting these for her. Since you dragged us from California she hasn't been able to take her anti-depressants. Maybe you haven't noticed because you only care about yourself, but I have gotten to see the effects."
"You watch the way you speak to me," I said, "This is what's best for us. You'll see." I stormed off after that. How fucking dare he! Madi had just finished getting dressed, so I scooped her up and we left without a word.
"What the matter, Iker?" She asked, peering up at me curiously. I sighed.
"Nothing you need to concern yourself over, Princess Madi." I told her. She giggled and laid her head on my chest.
"You play with me?" She asked as I set her down at the park a few blocks down. I nodded, and began chasing her around. I'm sure we looked strange, but I didn't care. After I tired her out she fell asleep on my shoulder, but Rocky was coming home from work so I had him pick us up. I put her to bed in my bed after that, and I started to get ready for my date with Vic.
"What am I doing in here?" Rydel asked as I was getting ready to go. I sighed. Now?
"Madi likes me," I said, shrugging, "Not that it matters to you. You chose a rat over us. Literally."
"That's not fair. I'm not the one who killed our parents and forcibly brought us here! You're making Ryland like you! Riker, he has a future. Just because you ruined yours doesn't mean you should let him become you!" I stared at her in shock. This is what she really thought of me?
"Leave then," I hissed, "But you will regret it if you call the cops. Mom and dad are the ones who left you to die! I came to see you. I always made sure you were taken care of. This started because of you! If you hadn't chosen a sleaze bag for a boyfriend then it wouldn't have mattered!" I yelled. Tears welled in her eyes.
"I didn't know he was like that," She whispered, her tone full of venom, "but you're just like him!" She stormed out after that, obviously to Ellington so she could whine about me.
Maybe I regretted what I said a little bit, but I would let her cool off first. I had a date tonight.
