I waited four days to call Victoria back, part of it was me getting busy at work and the other part of me wanted her to stew. Even if I was using her, she wasn't going to blow me off for Priscilla. What I did made her more attached to me, and able to get me closer to her. So it was a win win, for me at least.
"You wanna see a movie tonight?" she asked as we spoke on the phone.
"Promised Regina I'd stay with her," I said quietly, "but I bet I can blow her off."
"No, don't do that," Victoria replied, "Why don't you bring her? I'd love to meet her." I grinned. This could work. Priscilla loved charity project, bringing Rydel to Vic could open a door to that, to get us even closer. Plus, my poor baby sister could use friends. Lord knows it must be exhausting having Ellington and Ross babying her all day.
"I'll ask," I said, "Jack has to work tonight so I don't see how that would be a problem."
"So you wanna see Ant Man at 7?"
"Sure thing," I said, "I'll pick you up at 6."
"Perfect," she hung up after this. I wasn't lying, Ell was working and I was the only one available to stay with Rydel. No one to bitch at me for taking her out, maybe a movie would do her some good. Ross was right, she seemed more down than usual.
"Delly?" I asked, opening her door, "Get dressed. We're going to a movie."
"Don't wanna," was her response. She was laying in her bed, playing with the ring on her finger.
"You can't be home alone, and I'm going. Now let's go."
"I'll call Ellington to come home."
"No, Del. Come on. Let's go see a movie, my friend Victoria is coming and she wants to meet you."
"I'm not helping you kill that girl," She snapped, "I'm not like you." I sighed.
"Delly, we owe The Contact a lot. This is a job to us, and after the job is done I'll be done, I promise."
"Yeah right," She hissed, but she got out of bed and turned her lights on to find clothes, "He's going to own you forever, Rocky has gotten you two into deep, deep shit."
"Just get dressed," I almost snapped. I was barely able to keep my patience, but I really didn't need to get bitched at by Ross or Ellington over how I treated her.
"Close my door then," she said. I sighed and obliged, and she came out 45 minutes later showered and dressed.
"You look good," I told her. She gave me a small smile, the first one she'd given me in a while.
"Thanks," She said as she climbed into my car. This one was my favorite yet, it was a blue Toyota FJ Cruiser. The gas mileage sucked, but there wasn't many places to go around here so I didn't even pretend to care. Rocky and Jess were having a rendezvous in Atlanta next month and we were all going, but we could take Ell's car instead. It was a nice black Hyundai Elantra. Wouldn't call attention to us and it had good gas mileage.
"You feeling okay?" I asked her as we got on the road.
"I really don't like that I got blamed for my ex boyfriend almost raping me," She said, "he was a nice guy at first. And I don't like you saying it's my fault you and Rocky decided that you wanted to start killing people for fun." I sighed. This was a talk we needed to have, I guess. I said some pretty shitty things to her.
"I'm sorry, Delly," I responded, "I know I shouldn't have said those things. I just snapped, and I didn't mean any of it."
"It hurt coming from you," She admitted, "Every person in this family has made me feel like a crazy person at one point or another, even Ellington. You think I like that I'm not allowed to be home by myself? Or that Ell has to sneak off in the middle of the night to get me my pills so I don't go off the deep end? But you still made me feel like just Delly, or at least you did. Until then."
"I'm sorry," I repeated, "It just hurt that you seem to think that I'm nothing but a murderer."
"You're still my big brother, no matter what. I just hate what you did to mom and dad. They weren't the best, but they were still our parents. But I still love you, Riker."
"I love you too Del." I reached over and squeezed her hand. She smiled back, and we turned into Victoria's. Del climbed into the back seat. I smiled at her as I got out, only then noticing her glazed over eyes. Dammit. Why tonight? Oh well, couldn't change it. I could just hope that whoever took over was nice. I went and knocked on her door.
"Hey," I said, "You look beautiful." She blushed a bit.
"Thanks," She said happily, "You brought Regina, right?"
"I did. Ginny's really excited to meet you. But I'm going to warn you, I noticed that she's probably slipping into another alter. Some of them are nice, but she's got some violent ones."
"That's so sad," Vic exclaimed, "I couldn't imagine." I nodded sadly, neither could I. Rydel's mind was probably a terrifying place to be, and she was pretty much stuck in it.
"She's got us to take care of her, but I know she hates it. Hopefully she'll be okay till we make it home. Just remember to take anything she says with a grain of salt."
"Don't worry about it, Riker." I chuckled and helped her climb into the car.
We were in for an interesting night.
I'm in Knoxville seeing my boyfriend for the first time in like three months :)). Added bonus is my best friend lives here too!
