Ship: Hayes Grier x Grayson Dolan

Nerdy Hayes has a crush on cool guy Grayson, but is too shy to act upon it. Will something happen when Ethan invites Hayes to the twins' summer party?

- - -

Grayson and Ethan were the most popular guys in school. They were the hot twins that everyone wanted to hang out with, including Hayes, but he was too shy. He was only bothered about Grayson really. Ethan was cool, but there was something about Grayson that made Hayes go funny inside.

Ever since he'd first seen Grayson opening his locker on their first day of high school, Hayes had been infatuated by him. It was crush at first sight. He'd never felt something so strong so fast, and as Grayson had closed his locker and walked through the crowded hallway with his brother, Hayes had wanted to know who this hot guy was.

Over the next few months Hayes had learnt everything he could about Grayson Dolan and the more he found out, the stronger and more painful his crush became. He stalked him online and stared at him during class, but never had the courage to approach him. Grayson and Ethan always had a large group around them and Hayes would watch them while he ate lunch with his only friend, Shawn.

They were both nerdy, which didn't equal a lot of friends, but Hayes didn't mind because it gave him more time to daydream about Grayson.

Hayes bit his sandwich and narrowed his eyes at a girl that had just made Grayson laugh his perfect laugh. The world seemed brighter when Grayson smiled, and very near perfect when he laughed. Hayes' intense jealousy made him feel physically sick though, so he looked away.

"Why are you always staring at the popular kids," Shawn asked. "They're so superficial. I don't care about being popular if it means being like them."

"I wasn't staring," Hayes huffed. Shawn didn't know about Hayes' secret crush and Hayes didn't think Shawn would approve of him liking a popular kid if he found out. Hayes was certain Grayson wasn't like that though. He just hung around people that were.

"They only think they're big right now because their party's this weekend," Shawn said, rolling his eyes. Grayson and Ethan were throwing a summer party at their house and nearly the whole year was going. Hayes desperately wanted to go, but the twins didn't even know who he was.

He sipped his drink sadly and noticed Ethan break from the group and head towards the bin near Hayes and Shawn's table. He threw his trash away and was about to head back when he squinted at Hayes and Shawn.

"Hey, you guys are in my Math class, right?" Ethan asked.

Hayes nodded, his stomach flipping at the thought that Ethan, and therefore probably Grayson as well, had some idea he existed.

"You coming to our party this weekend? The whole year's invited," Ethan said.

"Um, I'm not sure," Hayes said, his mouth dry.

"C'mon, we're trying to get as many people to come as possible. It's gonna be way bigger than the lake party the seniors threw last month. The invite's there if you want it." Ethan smiled and walked back to his group.

"The invite's there if you want it," Shawn mocked in a silly voice, then pulled a disgusted face. "It's not 'you're invited because we want you there', but 'let's get as many people to come as possible so we look good'. How lame."

"We should go," Hayes said, determined not to let Shawn's negativity stop him from being in the same house as Grayson. And that house being Grayson's actually friggin home!

"You actually want to go?" Shawn raised an eyebrow.

Hayes shrugged. "We never get invited to parties, so we might as well go as the whole year'll be there and not just popular kids. It might be fun."

Shawn rolled his eyes. "Fine. I suppose have nothing else to do."

Hayes almost stamped his feet in excitement, but settled for a discreet smile instead. In two days time, he would be in Grayson Dolan's house!

* * *

Hayes tried on six shirts before he found the right one. He didn't have any experience of dressing for a party and wanted to look just right, but not that he was trying too hard. He settled for a dark shirt and jeans. He might as well blend in as best he could. He then spiked his brown hair in a messy style and frown at himself. It would have to do.

His older brother, Nash, drove him and Shawn to the party and told Hayes to ring when he needed picking up.

Hayes stood on the sidewalk and stared at the house for a second, wondering which window was Grayson's bedroom, then shook his head. As if he was going to get to see Grayson's bedroom!

Music was pumping through the house as Hayes and Shawn walked through the open door. There were people everywhere, all laughing and drinking, and Hayes immediately felt out of place.

They edged through everyone and tried to find anyone they could hang with. Shawn spotted some people from math club and headed over. Hayes was about to follow, but someone bumped into him. He spun around and saw it was Ethan.

"Hey," Ethan smiled. "You made it. We're playing spin the bottle on the other room and need some fresh blood. C'mon."

Before Hayes could argue, Ethan dragged him through to the living room. Hayes imagined it was Grayson holding his arm for the few seconds before Ethan let go as they reached the group of people kneeling on the floor. Hayes recognised them all as popular kids.

"I got a bottle," Ethan said, holding up an empty one, "and someone new, so let's go."

Nobody seemed that interested in Hayes as knelt down. He immediately looked for Grayson and saw him say between two girls on the other side of the circle. He was looking at Hayes when Hayes glanced over and immediately looked away when their eyes met for a second. Hayes felt himself blush and looked down at the spinning bottle.

It seemed the object of the game was to keep pairing people up to go off somewhere in the house together until there was no one left. Hayes wanted to run away so he didn't have to be paired with someone who didn't like him. And he definitely didn't want to see Grayson being paired up with a girl.

The bottle spun and pairs were sent off to hang out until there weren't many left. When it landed on Grayson, Hayes groaned inwardly. Two of the girls Grayson always flirted with were still left.

Ethan span again and it landed on an empty spot next to Hayes.

"Looks like you're with Hayes," Ethan said.

"But that's an empty space," Grayson countered.

"There's more empty spaces than people now, so it's quicker if we just do nearest," Ethan said.

Grayson glared at his brother. "Hayes is a guy."

  Hayes felt his stomach turn.

"The rules state you must go with whoever the bottle lands on," Ethan smiled. "Now go on."

People whooped as Grayson stood with a blushing face and indicated for Hayes to follow him. Hayes thought he was going to faint as he followed Grayson out of the room.
