Ship: Cameron Dallas x Matthew Espinosa
Matthew doesn't think he's good enough to be with Cameron after reading hate comments about him using Cameron because he's not 'famous'.
- - -
Why can't Cameron see that matt is just using him..
Matt should just stop trying cos he's never gonna be as good as cam
Cam could do sOoOoo much better
I hate that Matt has wormed his way into Cam's life and is clearly living off his money and lifestyle
Cam's only with matt until he gets bored
Matthew tried not to let the tears fall, which threatened to pour with every new hate comment he read. His stomach felt like a dead pit, sunken so far he didn't think he'd ever be able to recover. These were comments on top of thousands more that had bombarded Matthew of the last six months that he'd been dating Cameron. Six months of torture that was finally getting too much. He couldn't take it anymore. He didn't want hate to win, but the constant negativity was swallowing a part of him every day, and he didn't think he had many days left before he was dragged down forever.
He wiped his eyes, brimming with the wet feeling of self-loathing and tried to tell himself the same thing he told himself every time he read hate comments: he was overreacting. He knew the people sending the comments didn't know him properly or what his amazing relationship with Cameron was like off-camera, but that didn't stop the stings of their words burying themselves in his insecurity and staying in the back of his brain as pin-pricking reminders whenever his shield of self-doubt dropped. Which it often did. Reading the same judgements over and over again made you forget positivity ever existed.
Matthew heard the front door of the apartment open and quickly wiped his eyes to hide the evidence of what he'd been doing. He heard Cameron close the door and his footsteps walking down the hall to their bedroom. Matthew tried to smile as Cameron walked in with a grin and a loving glint in his dreamy eyes.
"What's wrong?" Cameron asked immediately, his grin faltering.
Matthew's stomach sank further. His tears sprung again.
"Nothing."
He knew the way he'd said that single word betrayed any chance of lying to his boyfriend.
"You've been crying." Cameron's eyebrows rose slightly in concern as he's eyes darted of Matthew, assessing for what might be wrong. He stepped closer.
"I-I was just watching a sad film," Matthew tried.
"Oh," Cameron's face relaxed into relief. "I thought something bad had happened." He threw his phone on the bed and started taking off his coat. "I just had a nightmare meeting trying to sort out hotels for that shoot in Milan next week. Everything near the studio is booked for some reason and the company are having trouble getting the clothes flown in on time. What film were you watching?"
He flopped down on the bed and looked Mathew's laptop screen. Matthew realised he'd forgotten to minimise Cameron's last vlog he'd been reading the comment's on.
"That's my vlog," Cameron frowned. "Why are reading comments on it?"
Matthew just stared at the keyboard.
"Matthew, I asked why you're reading the comments on my last vlog?"
"I was just scanning them," Matthew mumbled.
Cameron sat up and pushed the laptop aside. "What's wrong with you? I told you to stop reading all the hate comments and now I come back and find you crying over them again. It's your own fault you get upset if you seek them out."
Now the tears did fall and Matthew couldn't stop himself from crying. Hate from strangers was one thing, but being told it was your fault from the boy you loved was another level.
"I can't believe you'd go on there when you knew what you'd find. It's such a stupid thing to do. You're just asking to be upset."
"Maybe I look at them because I know they're true," Matthew shouted through the pain.
Cameron stared at him, trying to process what he'd just heard.
"Maybe it's not hate, but the truth," Matthew said. "Maybe they're just saying what everyone actually thinks. Your friends, your family. They probably all think I'm using you for fame and money, but aren't saying to your face."
"Don't say that," Cameron said quietly.
"Why? Everyone else is."
Cameron suddenly stood up, towering cover Matthew crying on the bed. "Is it true? Are you using me? Is this all a game for you?" He asked angrily.
Matthew took a breath. He couldn't believe what he was being asked.
"Of-of course not," he spluttered, looking up at Cameron with watery vision.
"I know."
"What?"
"I know you're not using me," Cameron said gently, sitting back down. "I just had to get you to hear yourself say it out loud. I don't care what anyone outside of us two says, because we know each other. I know you're not with me for money and you know I'm not dragging you along until I 'find someone better' or whatever bullshit people are saying. That's why I get angry that you read hate comments, because we know not a single one of them is true. They watch eight minutes of my life a few times a week. They don't know 98% of the real us. That's why you need to stop letting them feed your insecurity. I hate seeing you crying and doubting yourself over thing we both know aren't true. Online is online and real life is real life. You need to stop letting online stuff effect real life."
"I know," Matthew said quietly. "I just think they might be true sometimes and you'll leave me when you realise I'm not good enough."
Cameron rested a hand on Matthew's leg. "Matthew, you're the best boyfriend I could ask for. You're funny, sweet, sensitive, know how to make me feeling fucking amazing in bed. I'll never leave you over what a stranger said on the internet. Trolls are just looking for a reaction and you're providing it by acknowledging them and letting their hate effect you."
"I'm sorry," Matthew mumbled, wiping his eyes.
Cameron wrapped his arms around Matthew and pulled him over so they were lying in the middle of the bed, embracing each other with all the love they felt.
"Don't be sorry," Cameron said gently. "Just try not to let the outside effect the good that we have together. I hate seeing you upset and will do anything to avoid it."
He brushed his lips against Matthew's and their plump lips locked in a deep show of pure affection.
"I love you more than anything," Matthew whispered against Cameron's warm mouth.
"Not more than I love you," Cameron whispered back and they giggled into another passionate kiss.
