Ship: Jack Gilinksy x Shawn Mendes
Jack bullies Shawn. But Shawn likes Jack. If only things were different...

Shawn slung his backpack over his shoulder and stepped out of his house. He heard voices as he walked down his drive and saw a trio of boys walking along the street past his house.
He immediately dropped into a crouch with one knee bent and pretended to do his shoe lace up. He waited until the group had moved passed before straightening up and racing to the bottom of his drive. He didn't want them to see him, but he wanted to see them. Well, one of them.
He walked down the street behind them, staying far enough behind that they didn't notice, but close enough that he could see the broad back of Jack Gilinsky.
Jack and his mates were known around school for causing mayhem wherever they went and picking on people they didn't like. Jack and often beaten Shawn up for being gay, so Shawn was playing a dangerous game by being this close to him. He couldn't help it though. In a twisted way, Shawn enjoyed when Jack would taunt him. It meant Jack was paying attention to him and interacting with him. As much as Jack bullied him, Shawn couldn't help liking him. He knew he shouldn't, but Jack was everything to him, even if the attention wasn't the type he wanted.
They reached school and the boys disappeared into one of the buildings. Shawn sighed and carried on to his first class, thinking about when he was going to see Jack's dark hair and rock-slicing jaw line again.

It wasn't until lunch. Jack joked with his usual group on the basketball courts, while Shawn sat at one on the outside tables a little distance away sneaking glances at Jack as he ate when he thought Jack wouldn't notice.
It was becoming too much. Shawn had been following Jack around school for months and it was killing him that nothing was ever going to happen.
He folded his arms on the table and placed his forehead on them. He closed his eyes and tried to think of something, anything that wasn't the bullying-gorgeous-taunting-sexy Jack Gilinksy.
"Hey, Shawn?"
Shawn instantly opened his eyes and looked up. Jack was sat in front of him. Shawn's stomach flipped with fright, but also with a slight tinge of curiosity at Jack being sat calmly in front of him, rather than towering over him threateningly.
"Yes?" Shawn said quietly. He could hardly hear himself.
"You look lonely," Jack said sincerely.
"Oh, um, my friends are at band practice..." Shawn kept his eyes on the wooden table, not allowing himself to look at Jack's beautiful face so close up, or get drawn into whenever horrible thing Jack was planning.
"That sucks, man. I've been waiting to catch you alone though."
Shawn couldn't help it and his eyes flicked up to Jack's. They were like deep pools of chocolate.
"I feel terrible about the things I've done to you," Jack continued. "The thing is, I really wanted to talk to you, but I...didn't know how and it kinda came out wrong..."
"You could've talked to me normally like everyone else." Shawn felt his face flush slightly at the small outburst of his buried anger. And the fact he was daring to speak to Jack like that.
"I know, it's just that I wanted to talk to because I..." Jack ran a hand through his dark hair. "Shit, this is harder than I thought...I wanted to talk to you because I...I like you, like, like like you, and I found the easiest way was to pick on you rather than confront my...feelings."
Shawn stared and Jack. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. His heart started to beat faster and his stomach swirled. Jack Gilinksy liked him. Liked. Him.
"I understand completely if you hate me, but I just had to tell you because it was killing me," Jack said and made to get up. Shawn shot out his hand and placed it on top of Jack's, stopping him. It was warm. Shawn's whole focus for a second was on his hand touching Jack's flesh.
Jack stopped trying to get up and looked at Shawn like a sad puppy. His face was filled with remorse, but Shawn could see hope in his eyes.
"I actually like you too," Shawn said. His stomach flipped. "Like, like like you."
Jack grabbed Shawn's hand and Shawn thought he was going to pass out. "Really? I've hoped for so long that you would say that."
Shawn smiled at him. "Same.""Let's go somewhere quiet," Jack said and bounced to his feet, pulling a giddy Shawn with him. Shawn ran after Jack, his hand still in his, as Jack led him around the back of the school.
There was a quiet patch being the art building with a huge tree stretching up to the sky. Jack dragged Shawn behind it and they slumped down, laughing together for no reason.
Shawn had never felt happier. He was alone with the boy he's crushed on harder than anyone else for so many months. They sat close, still holding hands, their legs touching. Shawn couldn't stop glancing at where they touched, as if it would stop if he didn't keep looking.
Jack told him he'd liked Shawn since he first saw him and regretted everything he'd done to Shawn since knowing him. Everything Jack had done to him evaporated from Shawn's mind as he watched Jack's kissable lips move as he spoke.
There was still over half an hour of the lunch break left so they carried on talking and talking. Shawn knew a lot about Jack, having stalked him for months, but was surprised to find out Jack knew a lot about him too. They laughed about stalking each other online and Shawn found himself resting his head against Jack's broad chest as they spoke.
The school bell stopped Shawn in mid sentence and he let out an angry moan. He didn't want to stop talking to Jack. He wanted to stay with him under the tree for hours, days, and get to know each other more. The more they'd spoke, the more Shawn had fallen for Jack. There was a soft centre under the mean exterior.
Jack had his arm around Shawn's shoulders and brushed his hand against Shawn's soft cheek. "Looks like we need to go."
Shawn sat up and looked at him. They were still holding hands. He looked as disappointed as Shawn left.
"I guess," Shawn said sadly. "I could stay and talk to you for hours."
"Same. I never thought I'd be so excited to just talk with someone."
Jack smiled and him. Shawn smiled back, looking at his lips again. Jack leant forward slightly. Before Shawn knew what he was doing, he was leaning forward, too.
Their lips met.
Shawn loved the feeling of Jack's soft lips loving against his. It was everything he's ever wished for. They pulled away from each other and smiled sheepishly.
"Let's skip the rest of the day and stay here," Jack said.
Shawn grinned at him. "Okay."
He leant his head back against Jack's chest and closed his eyes. Life was perfect.
Laughing jolted Shawn awake. He was still at the bench with his head on his arms. He'd fallen asleep thinking about Jack. Imagining talking to him under the tree. Imaging laying his head on his chest. Imagining kissing him.
Shawn wanted to cry. It had all been a half-asleep daydream. He lifted his head and saw students heading past towards the school building, laughing together.
He realised one of them was Jack and glanced at him sadly. Jack noticed him staring and frowned at him with disgust before turning back to his friends.
Shawn buried his face in his arms again and wished more than anything the Jack of his imagination was real.
