Hayes followed Grayson upstairs passed lots of drunk people and along the hallway to a dead end.

"We'll go somewhere quiet," Grayson said and reached up to a piece of string hanging from the ceiling that opened a trapdoor leading to the attic. Hayes couldn't stop staring at Grayson's muscled arm as he pulled the string and a ladder slid down in front of them.

"We don't have to do this," Hayes said quietly, hating that Grayson was being forced to do something he really didn't want to.

Grayson shrugged. "It's okay, c'mon."

Hayes stomach twisted excitedly. Grayson didn't mind hanging out with just him.

He followed Grayson up the ladder and into the dark of the attic. Grayson pulled the ladder back up and grabbed a torch by the trapdoor.

Grayson led him through old furniture and Christmas decorations to a window halfway along.

"Hope you don't mind heights," Grayson said, as he opened the window.

Hayes shook his head and they stepped out onto the roof. They were on a large flat bit in the middle of the roof under a huge full moon and a sky sparkling with thousands of twinkling stars.

"This is nice,"Hayes said, thinking it was kind of romantic as well.

"Yeah, I come up here when I need some alone time. It's peaceful and the view's great in the day."

Grayson sat down, so Hayes copied. He wasn't sure how close to sit, so left a large gap between them. He felt privileged that Grayson was showing him a space he liked to go to be alone, but also felt he was intruding.

"We don't have to do this," Hayes mumbled again. He couldn't believe he was finally alone with Grayson and inciting that they stop.

Grayson frowned at him. "Stop saying that. I don't mind being with you."

"R-really? You don't know me."

"I wish I did."

"What?"

"Nothing. You seem nervous."

"I..." He didn't know how to respond. He was extremely nervous, but he didn't want Grayson to think of him as being lamer than he already did.

He thought his head was going to explode. He wasn't prepared for a conversation with Grayson. After all the months of thinking about him he should be, but this wasn't like any of the hundreds of scenarios he'd imagined.

He looked down and felt himself blush. Why was he so awkward? He wanted to jump off the roof and never think about this moment ever again.

He felt soft fingers gently brush across the top of his hand. He looked up as Grayson held his hand. He'd reached into the gap between them and taken Hayes' hand in his. It was warm, and calmed Hayes down immediately.

Hayes looked at him in shock and Grayson gave a thin smile, his chocolate eyes twinkling like the stars spiraling above.

"You don't need to be nervous," Grayson said. "I'm nothing special."

Hayes wanted to scream 'yes you are!', but his mouth had suddenly gone dry. They sat quietly, looking up at the stars. Hayes never wanted the moment to end. Watching a staring sky while holding Grayson's hand was more than he'd ever hoped for and all he'd ever wanted.

"Do you feel better?" Grayson asked.

"Yes, thank you." I looked at him, admiring his chiseled chin. "Most straight guys wouldn't be this nice."

Grayson looked down. "Actually, Ethan set all this up because...because..."

Hayes' heart started to beat faster. "Because what?"

"Because I'm not exactly straight."

"What does 'not exactly' mean?"

Grayson suddenly looked sad. "It means I'm having a hard time admitting to myself that I'm...gay. Ethan is the only person who knows."

Hayes stared at him. How had he not guessed that after the amount of times he'd stared at him.

"I surround myself with girls so other people don't guess," Grayson said, hanging his head. "Ethan guessed because he caught me stalking you online."

Hayes' eyes went wide. "Me?"

"Yeah. As soon as I saw you on our first day of high school I instantly had a crush on you and Ethan guessed you had one on me cos he caught you staring at me all the time. He's been trying to get us together for ages and thought this party would be ideal. I guess it was..."

Hayes bit his lip nervously. "It most definitely was." He didn't know what else to say. Well, he did, but he didn't know how.

Grayson looked round at him with his dark eyes shining. He scooted closer, closing the gap between them. They were still holding hands. Hayes' heart thumped.

"I'm tired of being scared," Grayson said, his face close to Hayes'. "Hayes Grier, I like you. Like, a lot."

Hayes grinned with his stomach twisting in anticipation. "Grayson Dolan, I like you too. Like, a lot a lot."

Grayson grinned back and leant forward. Hayes leaned in too and their lips met. Hayes felt like he was going to burst as they kissed in the moonlight. Grayson brought his other hand up to Hayes' smooth cheek as their lips moved slowly in sync. Grayson's lips were as soft has his hands and Hayes felt like they were made to just to fit with his.

They pulled back and smiled awkwardly at each other.

"I can't believe that just happened," Hayes said, feeling himself blush.

Grayson rested his forehead against Hayes'. "Well it did, and you should get used to it."

"Okay," Hayes grinned as Grayson let go of his hand and wrapped an arm around his back. He pulled Hayes close and Hayes snuggled up against him.

They stayed watching the stars for the rest of the night while the party went on beneath them. They talked about the crushes they'd had for each other for so many months and glowed in the fact they'd finally found each other.
