It felt like someone had kicked the air right out of her system, making her unable to breathe for a moment. Wear his jersey...?

With effort Lorelai pulled out of Neymar's embrace and scooched away from him to throw him a befuddled look. Nervously, she grabbed a simple strand of her blonde hair into her fingers; the ever-present beads and braids had already gone for the day after she'd come home from the cemetery — it was moments like these when she regretted not having them 24/7.

»Come on!« Neymar must have interpreted her silence as hesitation toward his idea, because what followed next was clearly meant to persuade her. If only he knew that her heart was beating so frantically that she could barely hear his words. Excitement was spreading through her at the mere thought of showing everyone where they stood, by this simple action alone. But....

»You're going to be there anyways, right there with the rest of the team,« he said. He was referring to the match against Atlético Madrid at Camp Nou. »Think about it. It would shut everyone up. The girl that's drawing the players is so much more than that! No more rumours, no more speculations, and most of all no more freaky girls that attack you with cocktails and whatnot because they think they know what's good for me. No one tells me what's good for me apart from me.«

»Is that what this is about? You telling everyone to shut up?« She hadn't meant it to sound accusing; she hadn't meant to accuse him of anything in the first place, full stop. But as she sat up from the bed, crossed her arms over her chest and looked at him with apprehension, she couldn't help it — there were alarm sounds and lights going off in her mind, accompanied by her father's vivid face and Luis Enrique's words about distractions.

Neymar eyed her disbelievingly. »No,« he simply said, confusion written on his features. »It's about you being safe from crazy chicks like that. If the truth is out, they won't bother you anymore. They'll know you have me behind your back.«

»And that will work just like that? By what, officially dating you? Wouldn't that be the metaphorical bull's eye? Basically marking me with your name on my back.«

He scoffed, giving her a wounded look. »Make it sound like a punishment, why don't you?«

Lorelai sighed and scratched her forehead. »I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. It's just—« She didn't finish the sentence; she didn't know how. Standing still in front of him wasn't an option anymore, so she started to walk up and down the length of her bed, trying to ignore the devious look Neymar was giving her.

»What's going on here? Really?« the footballer finally asked the million euro question. He stood up from the bed, interrupting her walk as his taller frame shadowed over her. His hands came to grab her upper arms, stopping her from moving and forcing her to stand still and gaze up at him. The look in his eyes was intense; he was confused, irritated and angry. »Call me crazy, but up until a moment ago I thought we were on the same page here.«

»Of course we are on the same page!« Lorelai replied with an angry glare herself. »That's not the point.«

»Then what is speaking against us making everyone see?«
