The doorbell rang again, and Lorelai looked from Neymar to his father, waiting for one of them to go and open it.

Neither one did.

Neymar frowned, looking at his father in confusion. »Who's coming?« he wanted to know, irritation visible on his face.

Rightly so, Lorelai thought. Usually, people had to go through their security system first, which meant heavy observation through various cameras and getting the all-clear from the security guy that watched the premises. Only family and close friends had, let's call it »easy«, access to the house. Which, luckily, included Lorelai as well by now.

»Oh, right!« Neymar Sr exclaimed, quickly getting off the couch. He got out his phone and checked something on it, glancing at Lorelai through the corner of his eyes. Okay, what was going on? »You remember the court decision a few days ago?«

Lorelai's heart sank. Oh dear. She had an idea who was visiting now. She'd feared that one of these days their timelines would eventually clash.

Neymar frowned, nodding his head in a grave way. He'd come to the same conclusion. »About the case moving to Barcelona. Right.«

Neymar Sr was already moving toward the front door when he replied. »Yes. We're having a meeting about it now. This should be Duda... and Ricardo.«

Lorelai felt the weight of her boyfriend's gaze on her, but she refused to look up from where she was hovering next to her dogs, patting them lazily. Her heart was beating frantically and she felt nervous energy floating her system, making Dante and Khan whimper in response — they always knew when something was up with her.

Just like Neymar, who had taken the few steps her way, standing beside her now in silent support. Davi wriggled in his hold, so he put the boy down and let him stroke over Dante's head, who in return licked over his cheek, causing Davi to giggle. If the little boy had any fears regarding the so much larger than him dogs, he certainly never showed it.

Neymar's father stopped by the door and turned her way. »I thought— I was actually hoping you'd be gone with the dogs by now.« He scratched his bald head, looking slightly uncomfortable now that the words were out.

Lorelai felt numb, but she did manage a small smile, shaking her head. »Don't worry about it. You're right. Usually, I wouldn't be here anymore. I'm just— I'm gonna take the dogs out through the basement. Come on, guys.«

»You really don't have to—« Neymar started, but Lorelai shook her head.

»No, I actually really need to,« she responded firmly. »No need for further tension. This is important. Besides, we knew this might happen.«

Neymar threw his father a dark look, which told Lorelai they'd had a conversation about who was to come by the house at what times. At least, that explained why some of the times, Neymar actually was more eager to stay over at Lorelai's place than convince her to stay with him. »Yeah, but that still doesn't mean you gotta go just because your dad's here.«
