Chapter 3

"Tory! Get up, it's time for breakfast!"
Ugh.
I rolled out of bed lazily.
Brush. Swish. Comb.
I ran downstairs to find a plate of omelette on my side of the table.
"Good morning dear!"
"Hmm." I grunted with my mouth full.
She gave me a disapproving look.
Oh well, you can't please everyone.
I hurriedly stuffed my egg into my mouth.
"What's the hurry dear?"
"I'm going out with the boys." I replied shortly.
"Okay then."
"See ya Coop, bye Whitney."
I rushed out.
I waited outside my house for about two minutes when the boys arrived in Ben's car.
"Gooooooood morning Ms. Brennan!" Hi waved.
At least he was in a good mood. I could see Shelton give him a disapproving look and Ben sigh exasperatedly as if he was forced into doing this.
"Well let's get going then." I jumped into the car, "I hope Ella will come too."
And off we went to Chance's house or rather 'manor'. The ride was pretty quiet cause I could sense that all of us had a feeling of uncertainty about Chance. Nobody could really trust now that he had betrayed us so many times. He was also filthy rich and often used his money for worthless things. If it weren't for his 'curiosity', we wouldn't have been in this mess in the first place.
Ella was already there, I recognised her long black hair and slender figure walking towards the manor's entrance, "Ella! Over here!"
She turned, "Oh hey Tory! Ben, Hi, Shelton!" She smiled and tossed her hair out of her face.
Ben nodded and Shelton and Hi, looking at their feet, mumbled, "Hello."
"Shall we go?" She suggested, walking into the compound. We followed her all the way to Chance's office in silence.
Ella stopped in front of the door, "We're here."
"Well, ladies first." Hi gestured. I shot him a disapproving glance, to which he shrugged, and I opened the door.
Chance was sorting out files in the corner of the room where the bookshelf was. He merely glanced at us and waved at the sofas, "Please sit down, I'll be with you in a minute. I'm afraid I have some interesting news." I looked at Ella nervously, she didn't seem to surprised. We sat down together while the boys stood.
"If it's interesting, why the 'afraid'?" Shelton frowned
"Because I'm not sure whether it's a good-interesting or a bad-interesting." He put the last file in its place and sat behind his desk, facing all of us, "You see, yesterday, I discovered that I actually had one more bottle of the serum with me."
"And?" I said.
"Did you inspect it again?" Ben enquired.
"Yes, and I found that the effects of the serum were only temporary." He sighed.
"But, that means we got our flares back. There has to be a catch." Hi folded his arms.
"Yeah, the others, Cole and Will got theirs back too, plus, it seems that our flares aren't the same as before." Ella answered
"What do you mean?" I said confusedly.
"I'm actually not that sure, but I know that each of our flares is different now, it's effects will be different from one another." Chance continued gravely.
"How do you know this?" Ben said.
"He checked." Ella said simply. "Tell me have any of you actually tried to flare and connect minds in these past few days?"
"I actually did."
All eyes on Hi.
"I tried for the sake of it, when Shelton came over to my place. He kept winning when we were playing Super Smash Bros, so I wanted to try and connect our minds to see what he was gonna do next."
"Was that right before we had our dizzy episode?" Shelton asked, annoyed.
"Now that you mention it..." Hi rubbed his chin.
Was that the same time that I fainted too?
"It could be a coincidence." Ben waved off their suspicions.
"I don't believe in coincidence." I said automatically.
"I think it's better if we do, in this situation." Shelton tugged his earlobe.
"Yeah, we should not come to rash conclusions without proper evidence." Hi agreed, all traces of sarcasm gone.
"You have a point, cause on the morning after..." I stopped, not wanting to relive that memory, "-after the incident, I tried to flare but I didn't faint or feel dizzy."
"So that's all fine then." Ben said, and then with a hungry look in his eyes, " But shall we try, just to be sure?"
"No way!" Came the expected reply from Shelton.
"Maybe we should." Chance insisted.
"I'm okay with it." I said.
"Me too!" Hi nodded.
"I'll go with the crowd." Ella shrugged.
"Why doesn't my opinion matter?" Shelton grumbled.
"Cause your opinions are a bit boring. No offense there." Hi teased.
"Hey!"
"On three." I began counting,"One, Two , Three!"
I reached out to the wolf inside me. I felt a familiar sense of the awakening of my powers.
Bingo!
I opened my eyes.
