Beep.
My phone buzzed during lunch.
Oh no, Hi not again.
But it wasn't from Hi, it was from... Chance?
Can we meet?
Now? I sent back.
After school at my place.
Right, will be there. I shut my phone off.
"Who was that?" Hi asked.
"Chance, he wants to meet after school."
"Oh, did he find something out?" Shelton twirled his fork around in his spaghetti.
"Not sure. Whatever it is, it sounded important." I said.
"Excuse me for interrupting, but who's Chance?" Emily said from beside me. The boys flushed.
Crap. I forgot she was here.
"He's our-uhh senior."
"We go way back." Hi said uncertainly.
"I see."
Thankfully, the bell rang for the next class just then which saved us from any more conversation with Emily about Chance.
We hurriedly stuffed the rest of our lunch into our mouths and left for our next class.
The rest of the day passed by quickly. At the end, Shelton, Hi and I said our goodbyes to Emily and walked towards the docks in silence. I had already texted Ben about Chance's meeting and he had promised to pick us up at the Morris docks.
I wondered about what Chance had to say, as the boat sailed across the water.
Is it something to do with our new flares?
Or about-
"Earth to Tory. We have reached Morris and Ben's Explorer is already waiting for us. Care to join us on the drive?" Hi's voice pulled me out of my train of thoughts.
"Shut up." I mumbled as I got into Ben's car.
"Hullo," Ben greeted as everyone was inside the car. "What's the problem now?" He added, quite cheerfully.
"You don't seem at all troubled by the fact that there might be another problem...maybe even with our flares." I said.
"Well I'm used to facing problems by now." He shrugged and gave me a wide smile.
He kissed my cheek and started the car.
I felt a tingle go down my spine.
"Love birds." Hi smirked.
Shelton and Hi teased us, mainly Ben, throughout the journey to Claybourne Manor. If I hadn't been concentrating on not blushing at their teasing, I would have felt quite sorry for Ben, as he was their main victim.
But Ben didn't seem to mind that much. In fact, he was surprisingly calm throughout.
When we reached, I quickly got off the car and went to ring the bell.
We were let in immediately.
Chance was waiting for us in his study. Ella was already there.
"So what's the news?" Shelton squeaked.
"It's nothing important." Chance replied.
"You called us here for nothing important?"  Ben asked.
"Well, it's not that important but," catching the look on Ben's face, he said, "Yes, yes I did."
"Spill the beans." Hi urged.
"Today, I met our best buddy."
"Will." I spat, but at the same time,
"But all my best buddies are here." Hi whined.
"Shelton." Ben said.
On cue, Shelton whacked the back of Hi's head.
"Not you too." Hi grumbled.
"Anyway back to the topic, continue Chance." I clapped my hands.
"Right. I met Speckman today, and he told me to 'watch my back'. I think he is plotting against us."
"We have defeated him once before. Why not again?" Ella assured.
"I don't know." Chance sighed, he looked a lot more worried these days. "It's just a feeling."
"Well, let's keep our guards up anyway." Ella quipped.
"I think we might need to do a little bit of snooping." I said, grinning evilly at Shelton.
He immediately threw his hands in front of his face,"Oh, no no no..."
"Joking. Plus, we don't even know where they are."
Shelton muttered something inaudible, looking quite relieved.
"I also want a few blood samples for a test." Chance said.
"Take your own blood." Hi narrowed his eyes.
"I didn't have a golden flare, the red one might be different."
"Stop being a baby." I said, as I held out my arm.
"But I-" stopped by a whack from Ben. "Ow."
"I'm sure an injection won't hurt as much as that did." Ben mused.
In the end Hi agreed, and we had all given our blood samples.
Now all we had to do was watch out for Will and Cole.
