Our previous conversation had me thinking.
Will and Cole were back, but what did they want?
Revenge, of course. But how? We beat them once before, why would they think that they had a chance this time?
Something must be different... But what?
My trail of thought was interrupted by the door bell.
I looked outside to find that it was already evening, and it was raining pretty heavily too.
"Whitney. Can you get that?" I yelled downstairs.
I heard no answer. She must be in the shower. So I went down to answer the door.
When I opened it, it was the last person I expected to see.
"H-Hey, T-Tory."
It was Emily.
"Whoa. Emily, what are you doing here?" I looked at her in aghast, she was soaked, "You should come in."
She was shivering madly. "No. It's a-alright, I actually came to ask you if I could b-borrow a blanket, you know a spare one."
"What happened?"
"I didn't expect a storm today so I forgot to put a waterproof cover on the houseboat... And apparently, the forecast said that it's going to be like this for the next couple of days too..."
"You know what? Why don't you stay over at my place then?" I offered. Emily was a really sweet girl, so innocent and oblivious, I obviously wanted to help her.
"Are you sure?" She looked at me uncertainly.
"Positive." I smiled comfortingly, and let her in.
"Thanks, Tory!" And she stepped in,"Ooh, that feels better."
"No problem." I closed the door behind us.
I lead her to my room, "Whitney! I have a friend over!" I called and shut my door.
I opened my cupboard and gave her my smallest pair of clothes, Emily had a pretty petite figure. She went to the bathroom to change.
Beep.
I snatched my phone from my table, and sat on my bed.
Come online Tor. It was Hi.
Oh I've always wanted to get him back for teasing Ben and I, and now, I had my chance, and my chance was currently in the bathroom.
Is everyone coming? I replied.
Yup.
K then, but I have a surprise for you.
Ooooh what? How eager.
You'll see.
I shut my phone and took my Mac.
I was sitting on my bed, logging in, when Emily came out. Purple suited her. I tossed her a towel for her to dry her soaking hair.
"I do hope that I'm not any trouble." She caught it and dried her hair.
"Of course not." I looked at my screen, everyone was on. "Why don't you come and sit here? I'll be calling the boys now, you can join too."
Emily nervously sat on the very edge, "I'm still a bit uncertain."
"Don't be." And the screen split into three.
"Hey Tor-Emily?" Hi stammered, "Wh-what-?"
"Extreme storm so Em is staying at my place." I smirked. Hi was always so nervous around her, it was funny to see him that way.
"Hello, everyone." She said in a small voice.
"How're you doing, Emily?" Shelton said kindly.
"It's good that you went over to Tor's place." Ben nodded, "It's gonna be a rough night."
"I'm fine, thank you." Emily replied, "And yes, there are quite a lot of disadvantages in living in a house boat..." I could sense her awkwardness.
There was a momentary pause in which no one knew what to say. Then,
"Hey, it started raining." Hi.
Hmmm...you've got it Hi.
"Umm...yeah?" Emily sounded quite shocked,"It's a storm, Hiram."
"Oh yeah, right. Storm." He scratched his head, "I like storms."
"Do you now?" Ben smirked.
"So, what if I do?" Hi said, somewhat coming back to his senses.
Suddenly, the till now very silent Coop, started barking like an alarm for the 'Whitney alert'.
Oh great. Perfect way to heighten the awkwardness.
"Tory dear! Did you say you had a friend over? I hope it's not one of the boys." She called out loudly.
"Does she know that we can hear her?" Shelton mumbled.
I nodded, "I'm sure of it." Then I shouted back, "No, it's a girl from school, Emily."
"Just checking. Anyways, come down for dinner, it's a school night." Was the reply.
I rolled my eyes, and said, "You heard her, meet you in the morning."
"But, Tory," Shelton said quietly," What about-"
"Later." I shut the laptop on their faces, "Let's go down." I told Emily.
She nodded.
And we went down. After dinner we immediately went to bed.
Emily was not a talkative person.***
"Let's go. We are late as it is." I called out to Emily.
"Coming!"
We were late. But we managed to get onto the ferry just in time.
The boys were waiting.
"You look all messed up." Shelton pointed to me.
"But smell good." Hi sniffed the air.
Disgusting.
"Oh that's my new perfume. I'm sort of a clean freak. Wanna try?" Emily said, and without waiting for a reply, she sprayed it on Hi's face.
Ooh. Nice move, girl.
"What was that for?" He cried.
"You smell bad." Shelton said under his breath, "Even she can tell. By the way, you still stink."
And Shelton moved away from Hi, wrinkling his nose.
"See? Even the perfume can't help." I teased. It was smelling pretty bad.
Emily laughed, "I hope I don't stink."
"No no. You smell wonderful." Hi.
Shelton sniggereds. He probably sensed Hi's uneasiness.
I grimaced. What was he doing?
But, it was true. She gave off a fruity scent, quite unlike Hi's abominable stink.
"Why thank you."
Was she being sarcastic?
I sighed and looked ahead at the approaching island, wishing that all our days could just be as casual as this.
