This is a few months late but I've been debating whether to share my thoughts on the late President of Nintendo. I actually didn't find out until a few days after his passing when everyone was mourning for his loss. I didn't think it was true, I refused to believe it until a few popular youtubers and website owners I know commented on his death. Even the tribute pictures, like the one above, were enough to slap me out of my denial.
I may not have known him in person but I believe that he has changed a lot of people. He is the reason for our childhoods. All of the beloved Nintendo Characters we have were made because of this great man.
He wasn't just a president, he was a developer, he loved what he did and that has been shown in his work.
Iwata was a man that changed many lives indirectly whether he knew it or not and its just enlightening to know that there are people out there trying to bring the world together over a video game that we all know and love dearly.
Even the Nintendo Directs were enough to show that he cared deeply about what he was doing to not stand on the sidelines and not let someone else introduce the new games. He took the reins and said "I am the Nintendo President and this is whats coming up." He was a sweet and whole-hearted guy from what I've heard about Iwata.
If it weren't for him, I don't think I would have gotten into video games as hard as I did. When I was younger my father and mom got a Nintendo 64 and played Ocarina of Time together as a family. We wouldnt have shared the adventure of the boy in green together or even have something in common together.
I wouldn't have had a childhood without him. Zelda was my life back when my days were dark.
Heck I probably wouldn't have even met Mint_Bunnies or Blyzzynx for that matter. We had found each other through that fandom.
I probably wouldn't even be getting two tattoos from the series without this wonderful man.
Even if this is goodbye his video games are his legacy and he will live on through the hearts of many.
Thank you Iwata, for all that you have given us and what you have done for all of us. Have a safe journey.
