The Witching Well started out as a book that was a joke. It was going to involve Holly, Michelle, Evelyn (Who changed to Miranda) and Saria (who changed to Sky) going around and derping off before the four of them fall into a well.
It wouldn't have been until the middle of the book that they would find out that the Well closes at midnight on Halloween, a sign that all mischief and mystical creatures of the night had to go back into said well.
I still didnt know how I wanted to end it beside Saria dying and them getting out.
But in the new Witching well. Things are very different. The story is more dire and more based off of Maximum Ride and Gregor the Overlander than any Witching story.
I won't be able to make anything near those books, but it cant hurt to try. Though this will not brush up against any of their worlds, they will not meet the characters from either book series. I promise you that none of them will grow wings or ride on gigantic bats that are three times their size.
Though I must admit, The Witching Well (and Aethra which I'll get to in the next chapter) is leaning more toward the Maximum Ride part of the spectrum. Considering the Cages and being locked somewhere. But I can assure you their genes were never messed with in the way of Maximum Ride's characters are.
I can tell you that the only things that were messed with were locked potentials.
And tampered destinies.
