Hello dearies! I know, I know, hold the pitch forks and flames! I have finally updated, and I'm aware that it's taken me a very, very long time to do so. As such, I'll keep this brief. I revised my story a little and decided to make Nixie's father, Lars, the king of the Water Kingdom. Which will make Nixie the princess. It's all part of a slightly different plot that I worked out and partly because I'm contemplating a book 2. So there's an amendment to chapter 15 that I'll post here quick, and then chapter 16 will follow :D

Amendment:

“You are my daughter. I am the head elder and therefore king of the water sprite kingdom, and you are of me. You have shown more promise than the heir himself.”

“You don’t seem old enough to be an elder.” Nixie’s eyes stared questioningly at him from behind her arms. Her father… a king?

“Yes well, they call us ‘The Elders’ simply because we are descended from the Old Ones.”

“Oh. And who is this heir person?” Lars wiped the tears from his daughter’s eyes and brushed her dark hair from her eyes.

“There are seven elders. Brutus, my second, has a son, Wylan. Wylan has proven to be stronger than all the other elders’ heirs and, as such, is in line to inherit the head elder status which I currently hold, because was without an heir to their knowledge. Of course, as my daughter, you are the true heir and Wylan will lose his status as soon as your identity is revealed to the Water Kingdom. There is much to explain on that situation, my dear, but for now we must concentrate. I have seen you run and that is an exertion of power. You run faster than I and do not tire.”

Chapter 16

Large, intimidating and utterly enchanting. The gates to the water kingdom loomed before Nixie and Lars like a beautiful nightmare. They were unseen to all but those that knew of the world they guarded and meant it no harm. Nixie glanced to the left and recognized the look on the man who she now knew to be her father’s face – intense joy. It was the kind of joy you see on the face of a baby, a carefree soul, when their eyes meet the loving faces of their parents and guardians. She had only experienced that emotion once, in her memory, and that was in the arms of Shayden after they’d admitted to their feelings for one another.

The thought of Shayden was constantly weighing on her mind, body and soul. Nixie had no idea where Shayden was, but she knew that she was still safe, for now. She’d know if something had happened to her. Wouldn’t she?

“Nixie, welcome to our kingdom.” The look on Lars’ face was one of pride and complete joy. It took Nixie a few moments before she fully processed his words.

“Our kingdom?” Her eyebrows furrowed together and she stared at the man before her in confusion. Lars bit his bottom lip and slowly released it, a gesture she too made whenever she was searching for words.

“I am the King of the water kingdom, Nixie. Therefore, as my daughter and only child, that makes you the Crown Princess. One day, hopefully a very long time from now, when I die, you will be the Queen and rule in my stead. Of course your partner will rule alongside you and, assuming that that partner will be Shayden, you will more than likely be ruling two kingdoms.”

“Two?” Nixie’s mind was firing thoughts on all cylinders and still struggling to keep up.

“Shayden is the Crown Princess of the Night-Flyer kingdom. Did she not tell you?”

“She might have mentioned it.”

“Well then, as a couple the two of you will form the most feared alliance in history. Even surpassing that of my mother and father’s.”
