(Ash)
I woke up to the sounds of chirping birds. It was a good way to wake up, but it didn't feel right on a monday. As I got up my eyes hoveres over to the clock. I nearly jumped through the roof, I had ten minutes before school. I guess my Mom must've felt like she was talking to a brick wall trying to wake me. Literally throwing on my clothes, I skipped breakfast, skipped brushing my teeth, skipped sorting out my bed head and rushed outside. After fitting my cap onto my head, I rushed off down the street and to school.
"You're five minutes late Ash" Our new math teacher folded his arms. His voice was cold, so I could instantly tell he would make the year a living hell "Please tak a seat at the front"
Oh great, alone at the front. I set my bag down and wiped the sweat from my forehead. It didn't take long for my breathing to become normal and I allowed myself to relax. Math dragged on for what seemed like an eternity. Was it Christmas already? I wasn't sure anymore. The bell saved my life, allowing us to be dismissed. On the way to my locker, I saw Serena.
"Hey!" I rushed over and put my arms around her. I picked her up and span her around "Heh. Good morning"
"God, Ash!" Serena slapped my arm "You scared me!"
"I didn't mean to" I laughed nervously, scratching my head.
"It's ok. Lets head to science" Serena grasped onto my hand and our fingers intertwined.
"I woke up 10 minutes before school today" I said as we made our way to the science room.
"I gathered you was late. Guess you need to get on that school sleeping schedule" Serena suggested to me.
"I suppose so, guess I was still used to the summer, huh?" We got to the door and stopped for a moment.
"Well. This is our senior year, so try and set an example ok?" Serena smiled. I raised my thumb ans returned the smile. We entered the room and took a seat.
"Welcome back" Our professor span round on his chair to face us "This year, you are seniors. There are no excuses for poor work. We expect the highest from all seniors and we hope that your final exams are a true reflection of the effort you put into your studies"
I felt about ready for a nap, until he banged a ruler on my new desk.
"Ash Ketchum. I am not surprised that you take my lesson as an excuse to catch up on sleep. I am feeling nice today, so instead of punishing you, I will give you some extra work.
I mentally frowned, extra work WAS punishment. I gulped as the professor dropped a giant textbook in front of me.
"You have until the winter break to read this book and then answer the questions. I expect big things from everyone, so I will have no slacking, ok?"
"Ok" I nodded, staring into space. I would need some serious help to get through this year and it's only the first day.
Soon enough, it was lunch. The best part of the day was here.
"Yo, Ash!" Gary shouted as I sat down. He came and sat with me.
"Afternoon, Gary. Haven't seen you since the first week of summer" I smiled as he grinned that stupid grin.
"I have been busy doing this and that. Did you hear about Kenny?" Gary leaned in with a whisper "His dad is getting him a car for christmas!"
I almost choked on my lunch "Seriously?" I asked, interested.
"I reacted in the same way. He said he passed first time. Lucky S.O.B, having a rich dad" Gary sighed and pulled out a carton of juice. He stabbed the straw into the hole and drank the whole thing in seconds.
"Yeah. I am not sure about driving. We have college to worry about now" I raised an eyebrow at Gary, who laughed.
"No college for me. My dad promised me work if I got decent grades" Gary nodded. He was already prepared for his future "What are you aiming for, Ash?"
"I want to go with Serena" I instantly replied. It was a priority and always would be.
"How romantic" I wasn't sure if Gary was being sarcastic "Even I know that with her grades, you will need to work hard Ashy boy"
"Oh I know. It's doing the hard work that is the problem" I picked up my now empty tray and headed to the bin. I placed the tray on top and followed alongside Gary.
"Yeah, you're pretty lazy" Gary laughed. I frowned at him, but I smiled.
"I know you're right, but couldn't you have tried to motivate me?" Gary shook his head.
"I don't lie, Ash" He said simply, before leaving me at my locker.
I used this time to think. It was only the first day, but at this rate all I would be is talk. I said to Cilan we should make the year count, so I show up late and slack all day. Not the start I was hoping for, but it is a monday, so who cares, right?
The bell rang, so I headed to the gym for gym class. Hopefully this lesson wasn't close to hell like the others. All I could do was pray.
