(Ash)
I looked up at the door of the science room. My final exam was here. I had never really thought about it until now, but I was nearing the end of my journey high school and preparing for bigger and better things outside of this environment, something completely new to me. I hadn't had a chance to collect my thoughts about leaving, but it was best saved for later. I had more on my mind right now, like what I have been studying. I took one last deep breath and walked into the room.
"Class dismissed" Our teacher spoke to the tone of the bell, with perfect timing. "Please hand your paper to the front desk"
I took my work and placed it on his desk, before rushing out. I waited for the others who had gathered by our lockers.
"How'd it go, Ash?" Gary asked with a dumb smile, his head bopping up and down excitedly.
"Fine" I noticed his weird attitude. "What's wrong with you?"
"Oh" Calem slid infront of Gary. "He is happy that he has no more work to do, so I guess he is overexcited"
"Such a kid" Iris sighed, suddenly appearing out of nowhere with the others.
"Well, I guess now we have two weeks before it is all over" Dawn pointed this out. Everyone was excited for the end of high school, but I wasn't sure what to think.
"You ok Ash?" Serena asked, looking at my daydreaming face. I snapped out of it and smiled at her.
"I am ok, I was just spacing out, sorry"
"No, it's fine. Come on, everyone has a break now, so lets go sit down for a bit" Serena grabbed onto my hand and I followed her down the corridor. We sat down on a few benches in the corner and relaxed for a moment. Everyone had space to lean against a wall and sighed in relaxation.
"I can't believe graduation is right around the corner, huh?" May spoke with her eyes closed. She opened one to see if we was listening.
"Uh-huh. It really is exciting" Dawn agreed. Everyone else murmured with agreement, but I still wasn't sure what to think.
"I wonder who the valedictorian will be?" Serena wondered, thinking of any candidates.
"Five bucks says it's Cilan" Gary suddenly said this.
"I wasn't saying lets bet, I was just asking a question" Serena sighed, almost facepalming.
"Oh well!" Drew, Kenny and Calem certainly looked excited. They all began murmuring bets on who it was going to be.
"I've got five on Iris" Cilan raised his hand between the other guys, which was surprising to me.
"You're involved in the bet and being bet on? That's really strange" I shrugged, before jumping into the crowd. "I've got five on Cilan!"
I heard laughter from the girls and turned around. They was walking off to go talk about things alone, leaving us guys to shout about some stupid bets and other things.
"God, we are going to have to work out the possible shares. Cilan has $35 on him, while Iris has $5..." Gary scratched his chin in thought.
"Well, since I was the only bet on Iris, if she is the valedictorian I get $40, but if it turns out to be me you guys share $10 each, which makes $40..." Cilan instantly replied, as if he was calculating it in his head at the same time. Show off.
"What if someone else gets it?" Kenny asked, contemplating other problems.
"Well, we just give our money back, don't we?" Cilan shrugged, coming up with the solution.
"Makes sense, no point in making anymore problems or bets, just share out the money back to everyone" Calem nodded, agreeing. The bell suddenly rang, indicating a class.
"Well, time to do nothing but have a clear conscience" Gary sighed, throwing his hands in his pockets.
"Why's that?" I asked him as the others dispersed to other lessons.
"Well, we have finished our work for the year, so we just have to wait until summer starts, which is in two weeks. Graduation should be sorted by then, which is good" Gary answered, before walking off. "See ya later!"
I walked off to whatever class I had and casually sat down. I could finally relax and not take high school seriously for two weeks and enjoy myself. I was going to be receiving a letter soon to talk about if I can graduate or not, which made me feel a little nervous but I couldn't wait.
1 Week Later...
I can't believe it is the middle of the afternoon and I am spending it cleaning out the garden for my Mom while she was at work. It was hard work in itself pulling out weeds and cleaning up around the garden and she expected me to finish by tomorrow, Sunday. I still had one more week of high school and the graduation ceremony was apparently on the Wednesday, but no letters had arrived yet. I just had to hold on and wait, while hoping that my GPA was high and I had enough credits to pass the grade. College for me is very important and it has been my goal from the beginning to work hard for Serena. Despite there being problems in the way, I think I have done a good job overall and I have confidence in myself, because I have to believe I can achieve anything, for Serena, because I love her. I want to spend my college years with her and no one else. I suddenly heard a knock on the door round the front and rushed through the house, swinging the door open.
"I have a letter for a Mr. Ketchum?" The man asked, reading the front of the letter.
"That would be me" I said, holding out my hand. He gave me the letter and waved with a formal goodbye, before climbing back into his van and driving off. I instantly saw the school emblem on the side and got super excited. Then I remembered my Mom's note.
Wait until I am back if you get the letter...
"Why must you make me suffer Mom!" I groaned out loud, ambling into the kitchen. I placed the letter in the middle of the table and sat down, waiting patiently.
Three hours later, the door opened and closed. My Mom came walking into the kitchen and saw me waiting with the letter. She forgot about everything and sat down.
"Open it!" She said, waiting for me to grab the letter. I put my finger under the flap and pushed along the edge, opening up the envelope. I pulled out the letter and slowly unfolded it, my heart thumping. My future was about to be decided by a piece of paper, which couldn't have been anymore nerve-wrecking if they tried. I opened up the letter fully and started to read it, preparing myself for the answer to my future.

This is where I take a moment to apologize again. The education system in the USA is completely different to the UK, so this whole time I have had literally no idea on how it works, so I have been doing bits of research here and there but I know I am confusing myself with it so it is all wrong anyway x) SORRY.
Also, sorry for a little cliffhanger, but it will be found out soon, because I am finishing this book tonight and rolling out the final chapters. Am I nice or am I nice? ;)
