Chapter 4: Nick’s point of view
The rest of the day went by really fast, before I knew it, it was time for practice.
After the bell rang, I went to my car to get my hockey bag. Once I had it I locked my car and headed to the locker rooms.
“Did you tell him?” I overheard someone say right before I entered the locker room
“Yeah I did, I’m not sure if he knows that she’s coach’s daughter yet though” James I think said
“Oh, well he’s going to find out soon” someone else said
As soon as they stopped talking I entered the locker room.
“Hey man” James says to me as I sat my bag down on the bench
“Hey” I said then got ready
Once I was ready I headed to the rink, on my there I passed coach’s office.
“Carter” coach called after me
I walked back to his office.
“Yes coach” I said as I stood in front of his office
“I just wanted to welcome to the team” he said putting his hand out from me to shake
I shook his hand, and then headed to the ice. I was the first one to the ice, so I took advantage of that and started to skate around.
After a couple laps, I grabbed my stick and a puck and started shooting.
“My dad wasn’t kidding when he said you were good” a familiar voice said
I turned around to see Megan standing in the stands.
“And you didn’t believe him, wait your dad?” I said
“Yeah my dad is the coach” she said
Frig, how did I not see this coming; they look alike and have the same last name.
“Oh so you’re the “off-limits” girl” I said putting air quotes around off-limits
“Yup, that’s me the “off-limits” girl” she said with an almost said expression
She looked kind of upset, so I decided to change the topic.
“Do you skate?” I asked her
“No, no I don’t skate my life just revolves around it” she said sarcastically
“Ooh no need for the sarcasm Clumsy” I said laughing
“Hey, you ran into me” she said defensively as she crossed her arms
“I know I just enjoy calling you clumsy” I said and she rolled her eyes
“Do you have your skates here?”I asked her
“Yeah there in my dad’s office why?” she asked
“Go get them and come skate with me” I said
“Ok” she said before walking to her dad’s office
After she was out of sight I sighed, I can’t believe she’s the coach’s daughter. I guess my plans of asking her out are out the window.
In a couple minutes she came back, with skates in hand.
“Got them, sorry I took so long, my dad forgot one of them in his car” she said
“It’s ok, I’m a patient boy” I said and she laughed
Once she had her skates on, she got onto the ice and before I knew it she was standing next to me.
“Jeez, you’re fast” I told her and she just smirked
I was confused to why she smirked then I realised she had taken my stick right out of my hand. She started shooting, not missing a single shot. I was impressed. She looked back at me and smiled
“You don’t grow up with a former NHL player without learning anything” she said as she continued to shoot, while I stood there in awe.
This girl keeps getting better and better, I thought to myself. Too bad she’s off-limits.
