Chapter 10
"Oooh let's go to the Ferris wheel, or maybe the spinning tea cups. Actually let's just play some arcade games. WAIT NO, I've got it. The merry go round! Oh my gosh, yay." I jumped around like a little kid as we passed by all my favorite attractions, which was all of them.
"Looks like someone is a bit over excited by the Los Angeles Fair." He chuckled.
"You are so damn mean to me." I faked a pout and began to fake cry.
"I'm not falling for that, Mackenzie." He pushed my arm and I cut out my fake act. I thought it really would work on a softy like Luke. What am I kidding? Luke was never a softy.
"It's just that I haven't been here since—you know what, never mind." I wasn't emotionally ready to talk about an event like this, so early. It has only been a year. "Let's just go do something fun, c'mon!" I grabbed his arm and pulled him towards the middle of the fairgrounds. I racked my mind on what we should do first. Oh yeah! The Merry Go Round!! "We are going to the Merry Go Round!!!" I dragged him across the park while doing a bunch of super fun activities. Turned out that we had a lot of fun! I probably missed a quiz or two, though. Then it began to rain, hard. 'AH! I can't get wet Luke, my mom will find out I ditched school. Oh my, she's going to kill me. And school's ending soon! Oh my god, I'm supposed to be grounded. God, this is all your fault. Let's have some fun Mackenzie! It'll be fine Mackenzie. WELL, IS IT FINE NOW LUKE?" After my episode, I began to cry and ran under a tree to get some shelter. As I cleared my head, I realized how hurtful my words were. What if he doesn't want to be my friend anymore? Oh no, I really messed up. I soon felt a arm around my shoulder and the warmth of another body next to me.
"I'm really sorry, Mackenzie." I turn to see Luke. I feel so bad for lashing out on him.
" No, I shouldn't have been so harsh. I guess I'm uptight after all." I put my head in between my knees and suddenly felt Luke grabbing me with his arms. "You are not uptight Mackenzie. You are amazing and a wonderful person to be around." I tried to hide my oncoming blush. There was just something about him, that made me feel safe, like I was finally at home.
"Thank you, I mean it. For everything." Something about his whole demeanor that made me feel warm inside, like I was stronger. He pulled into a tight hug and for a while we just sat there, in silence.
Oh. My. God
No, this isn't possible.
I like Luke Hemmings.
