"The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." (Deuteronomy 31:8)
You are never alone. No matter the circumstances you have been going through, God promised He would never leave you nor forsake you. Several times we go through phases where we feel so alone, our soul yearns for some fellowship and companionship but like many others we find none. We, human beings, were not made to be alone. We were created with a sense of wanting to belong to someone, feel loved, and cherished. To be surrounded by the warmth of God's love.
Everyone has felt alone at some point of their lives. I have felt alone as well many times, but the difference in that is that you have someone who wishes to spend time with you in the intimacy that only solitude can bring.
The Word of God says in Matthew 6:6, "close the door and pray to your Father..." What a wonderful moment of intimacy you can have when you are feeling lonely and run to the living waters that Jesus provides. There is no one that can provide that true fulfillment but Him. In that moment of solitude you find such true fellowship with The Lord, you find your soul being filled with love and God's presence. You do not feel emptiness; instead, you gain joy and peace.
Even Jesus Christ in the moment of pain had to cling to this promise. When He was moments from being arrested by the guards. When He knew that the cup of judgment would be poured on Him and He would have to drink from it; He knew how much that would cost Him. How much suffering and payment it would entail. He felt alone and sad, His spirit was grieving so much that He went to pray to The Father and gain strength from Him. He knew that The Father was with him, that He wasn't alone and He would never be.
All the apostles knew this truth, it was integrated into them. In the moments when they needed The Lord the most, His Presence helped them overcome all obstacles. Esteban, when he was been stoned to death, at that moment when he felt the most pain; The Lord showed him that he wasn't alone that He, Jesus, was with him and Stephen said, "Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!"
The Son of God through the Holy Spirit helped Stephen go through the pain of been stoned and showed how great and powerful is our Lord Jesus! He wasn't standing alone in that moment of great need, The Holy Spirit was there taking care of him.
When Peter was crucified upside down, the Holy Spirit helped him and all the other disciples in those moments of desperation and need. When anguish was the greatest, the Holy Spirit was strongest and the Spirit of God moves.
In that moment of need and loneliness call out to The Father and He will listen to you from His throne of glory. His Spirit will comfort you and show you that you are not alone. You are never alone. Who is the one that convinces the prostitute to change her ways and come to Christ? The Holy Spirit. He yearns for us, yearns to bring us into His presence because He knows how beautiful and lovely is for us to communicate with Him to have fellowship with him. A true friendship, but you can't call yourself a friend of God and not do His commandments.
After Christ's crucifixion, the church was persecuted greatly. The new Christians were thrown to fight gladiators and others to amuse the Romans in the games. Games where Christians were put in the arenas where lions would be waiting hungrily for flesh. These people in those moments when sharp fangs and teeth tore at the flesh, they sang praises to the King because The Holy Spirit was with them helping them withstand the pain and have a peaceful death. The glory of God was upon them as they put God first even over their lives.
These people felt alone. Many times they raised their heads to the skies and asked The Father why had He forsaken them? But He never did and He show each one of them that it was true.
Lastly, one of my favorites parts of The Bible. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood up for what they believed, they felt alone. At that moment that King Nebuchadnezzar gave the order to throw them in the pit of fire, the thought that they were forsaken must have come upon them. However, they believed in what God had said, that He would be with them wherever they went. That was the case as an angel of The Lord came and saved them.
When you walk through the waters, you will not drown. When you walk through the fires you will not be burn. At the moment of trial, you will not fear, because you know He is with you. He will be with you (Psalm 23). There will be moments when you will have to be put to the test, and fear will try to overwhelm you. The devil will throw every deceitful thought he knows and will try to convince you that God has deserted you. But you know it is not true, you have the promises of God in your heart and you know the truth about the One that made them. He is faithful even when we are not.
Know that loneliness is something everyone experiences. But loneliness can have both a good effect or a bad one if you don't go to the right source. When loneliness creeps into your life, its fingers trying to grab a hold of you. Run to the One that can fill your heart up with unconditional, unmerited love. He is the only one that can do that for you. Don't run to the world that will only bring you more sorrows. You will get to meet some good people yes, but you will also see the dark side of every human being. Also, don't look for other methods to fill up the emptiness in your life that only God can fit into. You can't fill up the emptiness with friends, human love, parties, or drugs. It would only be temporary, you want something, you were made for something that is everlasting and God's love for you never ends.
I will leave you with this verse:
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand" (Isaiah 41:10).
