Is That Your Boyfriend?

Sean and I spent the rest of that day together. After we finished eating at Subway, I drove him over to the arcade, considering it was the highlight of our town. We stayed there for a few hours and then left, mainly because the arcade closed at 7:30.

Other than that, everything went pretty normal. He was actually a pretty nice guy, and extremely hilarious. His mom called him just as we were driving up to his house, and it was the usual 'Yes. I know. Okay mom. Yeah' conversation. I'm kind of thinking that it's a Canadian thing for parents to do that because I've noticed Jess' parents doing that as well.

"Do you wanna come in for a little?" He asked hopefully, taking off his seatbelt. I really didn't want to, but then I realized how it must feel to be the new kid and not know anyone.

"Uh, sure. Why not, " I told him, getting out of the car, "only for a little though." I followed him to his house, and his mom opened up the door for us.

"Thanks, uh.." I didn't know exactly what to call her.

"Just call me Sean's mom." She seemed nice, and looked just like Sean.

We spent the rest of the night watching movies and playing video games. I kind of sucked at it, but it was fun anyways. My phone started to vibrate, and I began wondering why someone would text me at nearly midnight.

"Who's that?" Sean asked, grabbing my phone off of the table.

I reached over for it and took it. "Hey, no one touches the phone." I checked the messages, and Brendon's name was flashing on the screen.

"Isn't that your boyfriend Jon was talking about?" Sean asked with a smirk on his face.

"He's not my boyfriend. You guys are getting really annoying with it."

He couldn't hold in his laugh, and I didn't even know why it was that funny. "Well, don't keep talking to me. Reply to your boyfriend- I mean Brendon."

I checked the message. And once I was about to read it, Brendon called my phone.

I slid the key over to answer, wondering what was so important. "Yello?"

"Where are you?" He sounded annoyed.

"At Sean's house." I heard him sigh through the phone, and then he asked me who Sean was. "He's a new kid at school. And you would know if you actually met up with us after school like we planned."

"Oh I'm sorry," he pointed out, sarcastically, "I was busy preparing our hang out today, in case you've forgotten."

Uh-Oh. I completely forgot that we had plans! I grabbed my car keys, and told Sean that I had to leave. He nodded his head and walked with me to the door, while Brendon was showing how upset he was through the phone.

"Look, Brendon, I'm coming over right now. I'm sorry, I totally forgot and-." The line went dead. I tried calling him back, but he wouldn't answer. "Well, great," I whispered to myself as I started the car.

I wasn't going to give up on him just yet. He was overreacting. I mean, how was it my fault that I forgot? There were a lot of things going on today, and I just can't keep up!

I kept trying to reach Brendon on my phone. It was probably the 20th time I called him before he finally answered.

"What do you want?" He said harshly.

"Look, I'm sorry! There was a lot of stuff going on today and I forgot, Brendon! I'm sorry." The line was silent, but he was still on. "Brendon?"

He took a deep breath. "I can't keep trying with you, Ana. I've constantly tried with you and you always push me away. If you really don't want me in your life, why don't you just say so?" Ouch. Well that hurt.
