This Is Where It Begins

I wasn't allowed to leave the hospital until a few days after the accident. I was perfectly fine the first night, but my uncle said they just kept me in to get paid more.

"Ana, hurry up," my brother yelled from downstairs. It was Tuesday, so I only missed that one Monday of school. And today I would miss another since Brendon and I are skipping school.

I grabbed my bag and ran downstairs. "I'm here. Calm down, boy." I'm grabbed a few things to eat on the way to school and we drove off.

"So you're saying that Ana- this Ana," Ryan said while pointing at me, "is skipping school?" I don't even get why it was a big deal to them.

Brendon gave Ryan a high-five. "I'm such a good convincer," he bragged with a little smirk on his face.

"I've done bad stuff before, y'know," I argued with my arms crossed. They both began laughing, more at me than with me.

"So," Ryan laughed while wiping a fake-tear from his cheek, "are you going to tell her?" Tell me what? There's something important to tell me.

"Later," Brendon said while pulling out his car keys, "but now we've got to go." At that moment, the bell rang, so we both ran to the parking lot before it was locked shut.

We stopped at the cafe I worked at. It felt weird being a customer there. Especially when I wasn't getting yelled at by my manager.

"So what's that secret of yours?" I asked Brendon while sipping some of my drink. It bugged me a lot, not knowing something important.

He gave a little laugh. "You really want to know, don't you?" I could tell he was trying to stall. "But I'm going to have to tell you later."

Later? Damn, okay. It was probably no big deal, but I could tell by his reactions that it was huge news. "You've got to be kidding me. And how long do I have to wait, Mr. Urie?"

"Until the end of our little hang out." He said this with a dorky smile. "Then I'll tell you everything."

Brendon was off playing some arcade game, and I eventually went next to him.

"You've got to be kidding me," he hit the game after losing for around the sixth time.

I laughed, probably annoying him more than the game already did. "You've got to aim about an inch higher than your target," I pointed out, hitting the target right on the spot.

He had a kind of arrogant look on his face. "I knew that. Just trying to see if you knew how to play." I gave him an Oh-Really look.

"Watch, I'll show you!" He got a few more coins out of his pocket.

I quickly blocked the machine. "Not until you tell me what Ryan wants you to tell me!" He tried getting me out of the way, but I wouldn't move. "I won't leave until you tell me."

After a few more attempts of trying to get me to move, he gave up and sighed. "Fine. Ryan, Spencer, Jon, and I are starting a band. Ryan is guitar. Spence is drums. Jon is bass. And I'm lead-"

"You sing?! And you never told me? What's the band name? Are you going to get famous? Will you take me with you-"

He covered my mouth with his hand. "Enough questions! But yes, I sing. We don't know the band name. And hopefully we get famous, but you know, we kind of don't control that."

This was amazing. My closest friends were starting a band and doing something they love. "Can you sing me something?"

I must've had a really excited face because Brendon gave me a weird look. "I, uh, what do I sing?" I told him to sing a song by their new band. "Well, okay. But it's kinda of not done yet. And I didn't write it."
