Early 2015
Marcc Rose.
He looked exactly like my father I almost wanted to cry. Just because sometimes I remember small memories of him.. and it makes me wish my dad was still here.
It's been a few months since I was called on set, and the movie would be in theaters in a couple months. I was so excited.
"Jada!" O'shea smiled with his arms open.
I laughed and hugged him, breathing in his familiar scent. Shea and I have grown pretty close since we met.
"What's good lil mama." He spoke in a voice deeper than his and swung his arm around my shoulders, pulling me close to him.
"Shut up," I rolled my eyes and pushed him off me.
"Aww what's wrong? Not feelin the Shea?" He wiggled his eyebrows.
"First, never say that again and second, you smell like corn beef." I spoke as I continued to walk.
"That's shady, Jada." O'shea laughed his adorable laugh.
I looked down and tried my hardest to hide my forming smile.
"Is Jada.. smiling?!" He gasped, trying to get a clear view of my face.
"Smile? Ew." I looked at him in disgust.
"You look.. tired?" He stopped me and examined my face.
"What? N- Shea!"
He picked me up and threw me over his shoulder.
"Put me down." I ordered.
All he did was kept walking, which annoyed the crap out of me. So, I wrapped my legs around his torso and steadied myself by wrapp arms around his neck.
I slowly slid down in front of him and stopped once we were eye level. I could tell he was nervous by how how shocked he looked.
"Now can you put me down?" I asked.
He cleared his throat and quickly let me go, nodding.
"Good boy." I smiled, pinching his cheek.
...
I sat back in my seat and watched my dad's scene intently. It may have been just for a minute, but I knew for sure people would get excited when they saw my dad.
Gary yelled 'Cut!' and the actors stopped what they were doing. Marcc came up to me and I smiled.
"That was great," I said, still in awe of how much he looked like my dad.
"Thank you. I'm glad you liked it."
The actors went back to their positions and continued the scene. Oh, I couldn't wait for people to watch this movie.
"Man, he look just like your pops," A voice from right behind me whispered.
I turned to see O'shea with both his hands on my chair.
"I know. It's crazy.." I shook my head.
My thoughts started to wander and I remembered my last memory of him.
1996 (Las Vegas)
A young, Jada Shakur entered the hospital in the arms of her aunt.
"Daddy's okay, right Aunty?" She tapped onto her shoulder.
"Yes, don't worry baby. Your daddy will be okay." Sekiywa assured the little girl, trying not to mention the fact that Pac most likely wasn't going to make it.
Jada eagerly jumped onto the hospital bed, waking her father.
"Jada." Her aunt smacked her lips and tried to reach for her.
"It's okay.." Pac nodded.
His sister sighed and left the room.
"How's my princess?" He smiled weakly.
"Daddy? Why was aunty crying?" Jada ignored his question.
"She's just worried about me. That's all, princess." He explained.
"Are you gonna be alive, Daddy? Please stay alive." The young girl nervously looked down at her tiny hands.
Pac sighed and put on his best smile. He wanted his daughter to worry about things 5 year olds worry about.. not about their father dying.
"Jada, don't worry about me. I'mma be fine. Remember what I said?" He asked, holding onto her tiny hand.
Jada's face lit up and she nodded excitedly,
"Real thugs live forever." She said proudly.
By now, Jada knew all about her father's street side. She wanted to be like him, but of course, he didn't want her to relive what he went through.
So all Pac could do was tell her to never be soft for anyone. Always stay ahead of the game and stay smart..
Even if she was just a little girl.
"That's right, Princess." He smiled.
"Alright Jada, time to give your daddy some rest, ok?" Sekiywa entered the hospital room.
"Bye daddy," Jada gave her father a kiss on his head, making Pac laugh.
"Love you princess." He said as his sister took Jada from the bed.
"Love you too." Jada rested her head on her aunt's shoulder and waved goodbye to her father, not knowing that it'd be the last time she'd ever see him.
I bit my lip, trying my best to keep my eyes from watering. Yeah, I was five.. but my dad and I had a bond so strong that I remember everything in the time that I had with him.
"You okay?" Shea, now sitting beside me, placed his hand on my arm.
All I could do was nod and smile, knowing if I were to open my mouth, sobs would come out.
"Aight." He turned his head, but kept his hand on my forearm.
I blinked the wetness forming in my eyes away and looked at his hand, smiling. He started to slowly rub his hand over my arm and I got these chills all of a sudden. Which, I didn't like.
O'shea was my friend, that's it.
Jason showed up behind him and whispered something in his hear that I couldn't manage to make out. Shea nodded and went off to god knows where. Now my arm was cold and O'shealess.
O'shealess? Wtf?
"Wassup Jada." Jason took the empty seat next to me.
"Sup," I nodded towards him.
"Somethin tells me you and O'shea got a lil thang goin on," He smirked.
"What? No. We just friends.." I shook my head, smiling.
"Uh huh.. I know what I see, and it ain't 'just friends'..."
