Audri's POV

I stood in front of the kitchen counter at Justin's, intensely tapping my fingers against the marble as I waited for Pattie to arrive. She texted me at 7 saying that she was fifteen minutes away. It was now 7:11 PM and I hadn't talked to Justin since earlier at the mall. I was extremely nervous about the conversation that Pattie and I were about to have.

The ringing of the doorbell made my heart race. I straightened out my dress and made my way over to the front door, pausing for a deep breath. As I opened the door, Pattie stood there with an unreadable expression. "Hi Pattie," I smiled nervously, reaching to grab her bag.

"No dear, I've got it," she smiled and walked in. She sat her bag down before closing the door behind her then reached out her arms to pull me into a hug. I guess she sensed my nervousness. "Is everything alright?" she asked.

I couldn't think of anything to say because I was so caught off guard. "I'm really sorry about all of this. I wanted to tell you."

"How about you go sit down and I'll make some dinner? We'll talk about it later," she smiled sympathetically.

I nervously bit my lip and followed her into the kitchen. I grabbed my phone from the counter and took a seat at the breakfast bar while she washed her hands. I scrolled to Justin's name in my phone and pressed the call button. After about three rings, he picked up.

"What is it Audri?" he sighed.

I took this opportunity to put it on speakerphone. If he wasn't going to answer his mom's calls, I was going to make him talk to her.

Pattie put the ingredients down on the counter and walked over to me, grabbing the phone. "Justin?"

"Hey mom," he replied monotonously.

"When you get home, we need to have a serious talk."

I could hear the frustration in his voice as he said, "There's nothing to talk about."

Pattie raised her eyebrows and put her hand on her hip as if he could see her, "I think you forgot that you're talking to your mother."

"I'm sorry, mom. Can I talk to Audri, please?" he changed his tone.

She handed me the phone and I took it off of speakerphone before I hopped off the stool and headed into the living room.

"Yeah?" I asked.

"What was that about?"

"I think you know what it was about."

"If she thinks she's going to scold me about this, I'm not coming back until she's gone."

"Justin, she's your mom!" I yelled into the receiver. "How did you expect her to react?"

"If you had waited like I told yo-"

"No!" I hissed. "Do not talk to me like that. You're acting like a child right now. When you're done doing whatever you're doing, you better be on a plane back to Atlanta."

"Why don't you just talk to her? It was your idea in the first place."

"Because I didn't make this baby on my own. So, be a big boy and come talk to your mom."

"I have to go now."

"Yeah, of course you do. Bye." Before he had a chance to respond, I hung up.

I honestly couldn't believe how childish he was being about this. I paced the floor some more thinking of how the next two days alone with Pattie would be. My phone vibrated in my hand and I answered without checking the caller id.
