Natsu

That fucken player! How dare he touch her?! She's mines, dammit! He needs to learn that she's -

"You look..." he started and I'm almost out of my seat.

"Really weird," he ended, causing the whole class to shut their little gossip over Lucy's new attire.

Annoyance flashed through her warm chocolate, "You seriously stopped me just to tell me I look weird?"

Liam laughed, making Lucy smack his hand, "Then let go, you punk!"

"I meant weird as in good weird, you know?" The quarterback started explaining.

"I don't care what kind of weird you mean but the fact you called me weird is stupid enough. Now let go otherwise I'll make sure you'll never become a father."

"Weird as in different," he continued completely ignoring her life threat. "Different as in you look really nice, Lucy. That's what I meant."

And just like that, the annoyance in her face softened completely. I sat back in my stool because my usual strong legs lost all the energy they had before.

"And nice as in very pretty," he continued, my heart slowly crunching his words painfully.

Lucy giggled... really giggled at him, "Why, thank you, Liam. I appreciate it."

What the hell is wrong with me? My whole chest, I can't feel it, where is it?

"They look so cute together, don't they?" A girl sitting behind me whispered to her partner.

The boy sighed, "Normally I wouldn't care but honestly, I agree. They have that best friend - like relationship."

Someone else sighed, "They need to just start dating!"

"I know, right?"

Comments of Lucy's and Liam's need to get together started filling up the walls of the classroom but the two remained completely oblivious to the events happening around them. I on the other hand couldn't stop trembling, couldn't stop listening to the words of thorns, the words of truth around me.

I glanced at the painful sight again. Liam said something else, his big hand still wrapped around her wrist, and she laughed again.

"Y'all must be blind," a sudden growl rose above all the chattering. The whole class turned their attention to the person responsible for the sly comment.

"Bunny Girl belongs to only one person," Gajeel was sitting at the station directly in front of ours, leaned back in his seat elbow resting on my desk. "And it ain't you, pretty boy."

His partner, Levy, nodded her agreement but didn't say anything.

"But Natsu-sama is already engaged, right?" Someone replied. "So it's only natural Lucy-sama falls for someone else."

I couldn't stay any longer. And for the first time in my entire life, I ran away from my problems.

Lucy

Natsu's broad shoulder brushes pass me as he heads towards the door. Our professor comes in just as Natsu leaves, surprising the older man.

"What's the hurry, Mr. Dragneel?" The professor asked but Natsu didn't stop. Our teacher couldn't do anything else but shrug.

My hand slowly slid out of Liam's now weak grasp as our teacher put his bag down behind his desk. Erza, who was behind me talking to a few of her friends, jabbed me continously so I would move to my seat. I tried to whack her hand away but it didn't work. She didn't stop until we sat down, backpacks on the floor.

As our teacher was getting situated, conversations among the students broke out. Erza, who took Natsu's spot, tapped my shoulder catching my attention.

"You should go get Natsu," she said bluntly.

"What? Why does it have to be me?"

"Because," Titania drew in a breath. "He's upset that you were talking to Liam as if you two were dating."

"We're not though," I murmured. "Natsu needs to know that I'm in love with only him. Liam is just a good friend and a brother to me."

Erza held up a finger, "Did you almost forget that you can't be with Natsu?"

"Yeah but -"

"The idiot just thought you moved on already," with a foot on one of the metal bars, Erza slid me out into the isle. "Just go and tell him there's nothing going on between you and Liam. Do it quick, too. Dr. Fredrick could start any minute now."

I didn't wait a moment longer. Right when Erza finished I sprinted out the door, passed the professor scribing something on the board. He wasn't mad or anything but I did catch him saying, "Why are the Fairy Tail FC players crazier than usual today?"

I walked the empty halls, ducking and hiding from any security figures coming into view. The teachers might be cool with us running in and out of our classes but the security guards take their jobs way too seriously.

I continued walking, my eyes searching every inch for any sign of the familiar pink spiky hair behind a locker or outside. It took about ten minutes until I saw him through the main door windows outside, a cigarette in his hand leaning against a pillar in front of the school.

Sighing I pushed it opened and was greeted with the chilly morning air. I quickly wrapped my arms around myself.

Natsu turned, surprised written over his calm features, "Luce."

"H-hey," I chattered. "Why are you outside in this damned weather?!"

I knew there's something wrong if Natsu ever smoked. It's like the habit that helps him relieve stress. The last time, well, the first and last time he smoked was before our little friend - zone conversation five months ago.

He dropped the half used cigarette to the floor and put it out with his shoes. For the first time in a while, his cleats weren't on his feet.

"What's wrong, Natsu?" I asked.

"Why do you always assume negative things, Luce?" He smirked at me.

I twiched with annoyance, "I know you Natsu."

"You don't know me," He said, deadpanned. I actually felt hurt by that simple comment to be honest.

"I'm your best friend," I drew a breath. "I know you smoke when you're stressed. And I know you don't just leave like that without any reason. So! What's bothering you?"

Natsu's eyes darkened at the mention of 'best friend' but I paid it no mind at the time. He's been acting weird since yesterday and I have that sneaky little feeling I'm probably the cause of it.

"Lucy," he looked up into the clearing sky, the morning sun painting it's orange rays on the parting clouds.

"What is it?"

The winger didn't say anything for a few minutes, just building that anticipation for me.

One soft blow of wind made me shiver to the bone but Natsu still hadn't said s single word.

Suddenly, the familiar heavy feeling feeling in my heart settled in. I felt this way when we first decided to not push ourselves into a romantic relationship.

No, how is this possible? He can't be -

"I think," Natsu turned to me, facing my confused face.

His dragon eyes widened a bit when he met mines. I was feeling truly afraid with his words.

And that feeling was right...

"Lucy," Salamander kept his eye on the ground next to me. "I think it's best we stop being friends."
