19: Just Sexy Beasts

"Erza's gonna have our heads if we don't hurry!" I snapped into the bathroom where Natsu was supposed to be changing into his practice gear.

He appears at the door, one arm still needing to go through and one holding onto a sock, "I'm trying Luce!"

"I told you we didn't have time for you to continue insulting Gray," I grabbed my duffel bag, sticking my room key the small little compartment on the duffel bag.

I left the bedroom and entered the kitchen, my eyes scanning the room once more to make sure I didn't leave any lights on. But just as my hand turned the the knob and the door cracked open a bit, something pushed it closed again.

"What the hell?" I glanced at the problem. Natsu's hand was holding the door shut, his attention on me.

"Come on, we gotta go," I protested. "No more games."

"That's right, no more games," he repeated.

What is he a parro-

I never saw Natsu's kiss coming. But once his lips were touching mines, I accepted it without a second thought. My hands wrapping themselves around his neck, pulling him closer to me.

It didn't take too long for us to separate for air, his forehead is still on mines and a small smile painted on his face.

"Now what was that for?" I murmured, my lips brushing his.

"Just in case I can't do it during the rest of the day," he pecked me once more. "Or I don't make it to the end of the day."

I blinked once, "What'd you do this time?"

"It's not just me actually," Natsu replied. "We have exactly two minutes and three seconds to get to the bus."

Two breaths, Lucy. Two long calming breaths...

We're about to start a scrimmage with the subs the Fifa Association sent. So it was the starting Allied Forces FC vs Fifa Subs to be named later.

They gave about twenty and wanted Jellal to use the next two days to assess their skill levels in so more than anything, the subs should be more nervous then me.

But judging by their smug looks, they're being confident. I have the sneaky feeling they don't know who we are.

Yet.

Thank all the weather god people for giving us a warmer day. The field is a little wet but it isn't too bad. The morning mountain breeze was so relaxing that I think my game might be better.

"I can't believe she hit me, so hard, too," I heard a grumble behind me.

I giggled a bit. Natsu was the target of the physical abuse whereas I was the target of verbal abuse. And yes, it was Erza. She hasn't looked at him at all yet but she hasn't stopped nagging me about what took us so long to change into simple training gear. Back at home, I only needed forty-five seconds max but it took me half an hour today.

I guess Wendy should be the one that I felt sorry for the most. She was standing behind Erza when Titania was beating Natsu up. Judging by her pink embarrassed little face, I guess she kinda figured out why we were late. She was definitely uncomfortable it, that's for sure.

"Keep on your toes!" Jura's loud voice bellowed from the goal post.

Yes sir.

The subs had the ball first, the forward, a guy around my age with the typical Western blonde hair and crystal blue eyes (attractive but nothing compared to my Natsu), was the only one who looked a little worried about this little match. Or at least he looked like he's going to take this match seriously.

The girl standing in the same circle with him to lay off the ball was who I'm guessing is queen of the overly confident. The way her snake like green eyes and folded arms told me so.

I am so going to wipe the floor with her.

Jellal, who was sitting on the bench working on something, finally stood up. Three of the managers followed him suit.

With his hands behind his back he strolled out into the middle of the field, a smile on his face.

"Alright, subs," even though coach had his back to us, the way his tone was... I'd hate to be on the other end of what he has to say. "The refs are here and they will be on the field in three minutes. Remember this to make the team, I expect three things from you: absolute focus, determination and one more thing."

He paused for a second, giving the substitutes time to think. I heard the familiar sound of cleats slowly walking up to me.

"So what do you think it is, Erza?" Yeah even without looking, I know it was her. I know how everybody else walks as well. I needed to, to be able to call their names during games without getting too distracted. Oh, and guess who taught that little trick to me.

I could feel the radiance of the smile of admiration coming off of her, "I do, actually."

"Mistakes," they said at the same time.

Oh girrrrl ~ You two be reading each other's minds like reading a book now.

The substitutes looked absolutely confused. One even looked like she was going to go find a dictionary or Google it to find the meaning on her phone (she was tapping her shorts for a few seconds).

"We're all human beings here," Jellal glanced at the starters behind him. "Well except for Natsu and Gray, who could've dogs and cats in their previous lives.."

"We can hear you, you know?! We ain't no animals, just sexy beasts!" The two named players snapped in unison.

Erza and I dropped our heads in absolute embarrassment at their outburst. Everybody else on the starting team started laughing.

"That aside," Jellal cleared his throat, "We make mistakes. What I'm looking for in players is not what you already can do but what you can't. Are you focused, determined enough to correct the mistakes you make? Now that's what I'm looking for."

The looks on some of the older subs' faces almost made me applaud with pride for the young coach. The way he speaks makes it almost impossible for people to believe he's only eighteen and not a father to the next Einstein.

"So!" Jellal clapped his hands loudly. "Let's begin shall we?"

Erza disappeared from my side to return to her position. I straightened my posture, stretching the remaining relaxed muscles from standing.

"Alright!" Natsu shouted, catching everybody's attention. "I'm all fired up!"
