In this chapter, it is your birthday, yay!! You just turned 16, and are a sophmore in high school. You and Mark decided to spend your birthday together. Y'all just got back from a birthday dinner, and mark takes you to a nearby park. The song that inspired this chapter for me is You and Me by Lifehouse. And the picture above will be mentioned when the times comes. The song may sound a little different because of audio, but it is still an original song by Lifehouse. No more explaining, on with the story!! XD XD
Your POV
Mark was driving me back from my favorite restaurant. All of my family, his parents and brother, and my other friends came. We all had a blast. I got a new car at the house. It was a navy, Toyota Corolla. It was beautiful. I mainly received money and gift cards from everyone. Anyways, Mark pulled into the parking lot for the park, and turned off the car. Before I could open my door, he came to the door and opened it for me. What a gentleman.
"My lady.", he said and gestured his arm out for me to latch mine to. I latched my arm, and got out of the car. He went to the trunk to get out a picnic blanket and lead me to a hill with a single tree, looking out at the little pond. He put the blanket on the ground and patted a spot next to him. I sat beside him criss cross. We then laid back and gazed at the stars.
"Happy birthday, (Y/n)." Mark said.
"Thanks, but why did you bring me to the park?" I said confused.
"Well, I never got to give you your present from me.", he said and pulled something out of his pocket. He pulled out a blue velvet box, and what was inside brought me to tears.
(look at picture in media for below content)
Inside, was a gold, heart-shaped locket with our initials on the front. M & (first initial). He always knew I wanted a locket, and he gave me my wish. When I opened it, it was a picture of him on the left, and on the right was the picture we took from when he gave me a piggy back ride. I hid my face on his back, and he had his eyes closed, but laughing like crazy. That was one of the best days, I will never forget.
"Mark, it's beautiful. But why did you get me this?", I asked.
"I knew you always wanted a locket, and when your birthday was coming, I knew I had to do something special for you."
"But this must've cost a fortune! I can't accept this."
"Trust me, it was worth every penny to see that smile on your face. I wanted to make my best friend feel special on her special day. Looks like I achieved it." All you could do then was just smile like a goof, and hug him. He hugged back and it lasted for a good five minutes. You blushed because you liked him a little more, and it was awkward for this to happen.
"Thank you, Mark. For everything. Even when we were five years old, and you came in and brought me happiness and friendship."
"You're welcome. And I never want you to think otherwise. We will always be best friends, no matter what." He said and smiled.
You smiled, but cringed on the inside. I have always wanted to be more than friends with him, but it might not work out. I don't want to loose his friendship, ever. I knew we would always be friends. We stuck by each other this long, we could beat anything in our way.
"Oh, and for me, I got a a silver bracelet, with our initials on the front. The bracelet will remind me of you, and the locket will remind you of me.", he said.
"Mark, this is the best gift anyone has ever given me. Thank you.", you said.
"And (Y/n), can you promise me something?", he asked while putting the locket around my neck.
"Yeah, Mark? Anything."
"Promise me that you will never take the locket off. If you don't have the locket on, I would feel like I am being a bad friend. So please, never take it off."
"I promise, no matter what. I will never take it off, with the exception of showering, so I don't rust it." I laughed at the end of my statement.
"Well, I know that!", he said and laughed.
Mark's POV
We both laughed and gazed back up to the stars. I looked down at my phone and it read in bold, 11:14 P.M. I got up and said, "It's getting late, I should probably take you back home now." She agreed and we walked back to my car. I opened the car door for her, let her in, and closed it. I went to the driver's side and started the car. We put on our seat belts, and started our journey back to her house.
I glanced over at her, and saw that she was messing around with her locket. I'm glad she enjoyed her gift. She is my best friend. I will do anything for her. I will make sure no one hurts her, or anything.
I turned on the radio, and one of her favorite songs came on. I think it was called You and Me by a band called Lifehouse. She made me listen to it before, and I have to admit, its a really great song.
Lyrics:
What day is it? And in what month?
This clock never seemed so alive
I can't keep up and I can't back down
I've been losing so much time(Y/n) and I started singing the chorus.
Cause it's you and me and all of the people
With nothing to do, nothing to lose
And it's you and me and all of the people
And I don't know why I can't keep my eyes off of youWe sang the rest of the song. At the end, we were out of breath. I glanced over at her for a second, and back at the road. I started to laugh and she joined in. We always sang to different songs and would laugh like crazy at the end.
We pulled into her driveway and we both got out. I walked her to her door and started to say our goodbyes. I gave her a hug.
"Happy birthday, (Y/n). Oh, I almost forgot." I ran back to my car and grabbed the same photo that was in her locket and went to give it to her. The picture of me giving her a piggy back ride.
"I knew how much you loved the picture too, so I printed it out for you so you can frame it."
"Thank you, Mark. And I know the perfect place and frame to put it.", she said.
"Okay, well I have to go. I will see you tomorrow at school.", I said and went back to my car.
"Okay, bye!", she yelled.
I backed out of her drive way and went to my house, even though I was right next door. I waved my hand through the window and left.
Happy birthday, (Y/n). I hope you never forget it.
Your POV
I walked inside my house, and went to my room. I changed out of my clothes from today, and slipped on a my band shirt, then my black and red plaid pajama pants. I then went to the bathroom, and wiped the left over make up off my face. I brushed my teeth after that, and went back to my room. I glanced at the mirror on the back of my door, and saw the pretty locket around my neck. I put my hand over it and smiled. I took the picture and put it in a frame that was silver along the edges and put it on my bed side nightstand.
I got into bed and turned to my side. I saw the picture in view and thought about how lucky I was to have a friend like Mark. He was definitely a dream come true.
I drifted off to sleep, but then repeated what I said to him earlier when he gave me the locket.
I promise, no matter what. I will never take it off...
I think I could've done better wight the chapter, but on the other hand, I am happy with it. Another chapter done! Anyways, thank you so much to everyone who reads and votes for this book. I literally thought no one would read it, but we have over 100 reads and I am very grateful. Thank you so much!! I love you my ghost loves, and I will see you later, bye!! XD
