Heartbreak Girl

Flashback pt 1. (Aged 14)

Maya's POV

I pressed the doorbell and listened to it ring throughout the house as I rubbed my cold hands together. The delicate chiming stopped and I stuffed my hands in my pockets as I waited for Luke. There was some shuffling from the other side and I squinted to look through the frosted glass, making out a figure. The door rolled open and reveled a topless Jack who was munching on some cereal. He beamed at me and I felt my heart flutter a teeny tiny bit.

"Luuuke, your girlfriend's here." Jack walked away down the hall but stopped just outside the kitchen, leaning against the door frame watching me. Luke trotted down the stairs and sighed. "She's not my girlfriend."

"Oh really, so why do you talk about her all the time? Maya is so funny, Maya is so smart..." Jack raised his voice a couple of octaves higher but Luke cut him off by whipping him with his coat. "I do not." I giggled at Jack and he winked at me, leaving me breathless for a millisecond.

I didn't want to admit that I might have a tiny crush on Jack, Luke's older brother. It would make everything so awkward and complicated. The easiest thing I could do was pretend I didn't, especially as nothing would come of it anyway, since he was 19.

Luke slid his coat on and waved his hand in front of my face, pulling me out of my Jack trance. I shook my head and laughed. "Sorry, did you say something?"

"Are you ready to leave?"

"Oh yeah..."

I hopped down the small step that laid in front of Luke's house and turned around to face him. He followed after me and we walked together in silence, our steps in sync.

"You know, Jack's only kidding when he says stuff like that right?" I nodded and looked up to him, having to strain my neck more that I used to. "Of course." He smiled out of one side on his mouth and looked down to me out the corner of his eye. "You know, you're getting really tall, one day you're going to be all legs and 9ft."He laughed and threw his arm around my shoulders.

"Never."
