Cut in Half

Chapter 3

Eric woke up from a nightmare and gasped. He sat up and looked around. It looked like he was in a hospital bed, in a hospital room. He looked at himself. He was in a hospital dress thing. "Ugh wow, I look stupid." He said. Eric looked at his arm. He had an IV in his vein.

Then out of the ordinary his left shoulder flared in pain. He hunched over and groaned. Someone came to the door and rushed over to Eric. " Eric, your up." She said. " I noticed." He responded. She lifted up his sleeve and uncovered his shoulder, which revealed hundreds of stitches. It was red. " Doesn't look like anything is wrong." She said. "It still hurts."

"Yes it will hurt for a while, you just had surgery." "Will I be O.K? He asked. " Oh yes of course. The surgery went perfectly."

Eric thought about the crash. Kids screaming, bus rolling, unconscious kids, bus driver. " What happened to the bus driver?" Eric asked. Her face went dark. " He did not make it." Eric let that settle in him. "What happened to him?" He asked. She waved the question away. " The doctor should be with you in a moment."

His mind suddenly went to Luke. He gasped. " Luke! Where is he!? Is he all right?" Her face screwed up in confusion. " OHHH oh yea your brother." She said, "well, he's in surgery right now." " Will he be all right?"

She paused looking for an answer that wouldn't scare Eric. She opened her mouth to speak, but just then a doctor walked in the room with a cheerful look on his face. The nurse quickly walked out of the room. " Heyyyy Eric! I'm Dr.Marcus how are you feeling?" Eric looked at him blankly. " Miserable," he said quickly. " is Luke gonna be all right?" He responded. " Well, he's under surgery, so we can't be sure. But got hit pretty bad. He has four broken ribs, fractured scull, and a punctured lung."

Eric's Heart skipped a beat. He got a lump in his throat, and a tear slid down his face. The doctor knelt next to Eric. " Were doing the best we can Eric." Eric nodded his head. " Thank you doctor."

Dr.Marcus stood up and walked over to the doorway when suddenly a woman's voice spoke. " Where is he!? Show me the way!" She sounded very familiar. His lip curled into a smile, which turned into a grin when he found out who it was. "Mom." He said just as his Mom came to the door. " Eric!" She said. Eric sat up. She ran over to Eric and hugged him and kissed him over and over. " Ow OK Mom that's enough, ow Mom please, your hurting me."

his Mom let him go and smiled. " Oh, sorry, How are you feeling?" She asked. " I'm fine Mom, but Luke got hurt really bad."

Her smile faded. " How bad?"

"He has four broken ribs, a fractured scull, and a punctured lung." Said Dr. Marcus which made Eric's mom jump. " Oh, Oh my gosh this is not OK." She said. Her lip quivered and she started crying. " But We are doing our best. I will be back with more news later. In the meanwhile, Eric should get some rest."

Eric's mom took a seat on one of the chairs, and Dr.Marcus left the room.

overwhelmed, Eric went to sleep.
